Thanks to speedy fast shipping from Jeff the Encore barrel I ordered mid last week is about ready to go. Went with DI for this rifle. Anxious to get the trigger time in before hunting season! I'm definitely liking the weight compared to my bolt gun.

You did not waist any time getting it together..... Definitely didn't. This is a "shared assets" project. The frame and stock belong to my best friend. I got the scope and barrel.

So. I currently have 300 grain bullets and 4198. Ideally I would like to try 250 or 275's. Currently I only have the 300's. With this being DI what charge weight would be appropriate for 300's?

Would keep it under 65 grains.

Just witnessed a great group with 62 4198 wool wad and 300 Aeromax. 2500+ fps. It will be all the recoil you want with no brake. I shoot 58gr with same gr weight bullets at 2440ish fps, wool wad.

I would try 61 - 63 grain in half grain increments but 62 will be really close to the node with the 300 grain bullet. Try with and without a wool wad.

I use DI in my CVA with 62 grains of H 4198 , wool wad and the Pittman 300 grain bullet. It shot better with a wad. Zack at the Kentucky Challenge was using 62 with a HIS in his Encore. Run a ladder test from 60 to 65 grains in half grain increments recording your FPS and you’ll find your node.

Thank you. Sounds like wool wads are in my future. Any particular wad I should be looking for?

Yes, my plan was to order them from Kyle. Never had to use them before. But, it seems like they are necessary for the best performance in a break action.

Made it to the range today for a little shooting. Only had time for 8 rounds. Which was two 3 shot groups and two shots for fouling the barrel. Here are the first two groups fired from this rifle. No load development. Just selected a safe charge weight, and shot using a wad.

Not to bad for just picking a load and trying it. Looks like it’s deer MOA ready. A little more range time and a few adjustments you’ll be good to go.
