looking for a pellet gun that will kill a squirrel at 40-50 yards. I don't mind shooting my .17hmr in the back yard, but I don't feel comfortable shooting it in the front. Would like to stay around $5-600 for a complete set up if possible.
Are the hand pumps for the pcp rifles even worth looking at?
thanks Ronnie

I have the Benjamin .25 PCP Marauder and it will penetrate 3/16" reinforced rubber belting and 1/2" particle board at 50 yards AND hold to 5 shot 1/2" groups at that distance.

Marauders are the rock in PCP's. Great value, accuracy, and respected. A lot of bang for the buck in the Air Venturi Avenger as well. Highly tunable. Mine is 22cal, and zero complaints. I was back and forth between 22 and 25cal, and my decision was based on local availability in 22 pellets on the shelf. I do hand pump, but it's not for sissies. All depends how much you will shoot. The bigger cals use more air per shot. I have buddies that use 177 to 40yds on squirrels with no problems.

I have two aluminum scuba tanks and one smaller carbon/fiber pony tank that pressures up to 4500. I cascade off the two scuba tanks and then if I need to up the gun to 3K I top off with the pony tank. I mainly shoot between 3,000 and 2,000 psi. This will give me about 7 five shot groups from 765 fps down to 700. Accuracy will slightly go away along with ES's at the lower end..............but not by much! I get the best accuracy with the Exact KING 25 gr. pellets. The 32's are ok, but just not quite as accurate as the 25's.
