Have a fellow hunter here that has this scout that is just not grouping 1 1/2 to 2 plus inches as most know it was a 45/70 converted to the 45 he is using the IMR 4198 65 grains under a 275 PITTMAN accumax and we have tried the Fury 275 black tip all with federal 215 mag primers, what would a wad do and how does that work improving the accuracy, or does it? its a new gun wondering about the crown, have shot and zeroed maybe 4/5 others just like it and all shoot really well, look forward to your insight and comments and thanks!!

Yes I would try a wad for sure and also would back off the charge some to see if that helps IF the wad don't do the trick.

I also use a wool wad and maybe try backing off your powder a little. Mine like 60gr IMR 4198 wool wad and 275 gr Pittman. Shoots lights out.

You also have to have a different mind set on shooting. You can't shoot it like a rifle. You have to hang on these rascals different. Go back and check richards post when he shoot one for a couple months. I like rearward pressure and down ward pressure when sighting in a gun of this.

I am also using a wool wad with my Scout with 53gr 4227 and either Barnes 275xpb or 240gr xtp mag., both under moa @ 100yds. 2400+ fps with the 275 and 2600+ with 240.

I ordered some wads wool type how do we use them, I know it goes between the powder and the freedom seed do you glue it to the base or place it on top of the tube and just push it down along with the Pittman ? thanks again!!

Just dump in the powder put wad in and let the bullet push it to the powder charge. I believe you will get good results with the wad.

I would try it with the wool wad and 65 first and if that doesn’t tighten up the group then try the ladder JMO

Just an update with the many suggestions of the use of wool wads and these break action CVA SCOUT, I obtain some from KYLE at Pittman Bullets,, arrived back at the range not only with the ML that I had problems with but with another one also. The new one after Zeroing I could tell this one was also going to be a scattergun just as the previous one, loaded them both 65 grains 4198, wool wad one with Fury the other with Pittman 275 grainers, First gun mention two in the same hole third shot 3/8 inch away, two more shots after adjusting scope for impact same hole, the newer CVA 3 shots 3/4 inch group all at 100 yards! thanks to all with the concern and advisement. THANKS!!!!!!!
