this past Thursday Mr. Blankenship ( Ultimate Predator) made the trip to Dayton Tn for Kyle's High Performance Muzzleloading class held on Saturday along with several others, Two gents from Colorado came in on Thrusday also along with Hank who went fishing with the Squatch on Friday.
Steve and I along with the guys from Colorado made the trip to Dead Zero on Friday morning to do a little shooting, I had a light weight .45 to shoot along with my Bolt gun, Steve was shooting his gun called EarthQuake which is a heavy built .40 cal shooting a 350 Aeromax at 3075 Fps.
All were impressed by his shooting, bug holes @ 100, good group on steel at 600, excellent group on steel at 1000 for 8 shots of about 5 inches.
The wind was pretty bad as well but was mostly in our face which about froze us in the 41 degree temps.
Scott also made 3 shots in a row on the 1000 yard steel.
Not knowing what to expect with the light 24" barreled .45 I boresighted on the 200 yard target and proceeded to shoot @ 100.
After zeroing the 2.5x17.5 Sightron I went to 300, then 600 for hits on steel and then on to 1000.
the load was 70 grains of H-4198 and a 300 Aeromax, very capable for deer out to 500 or so, the speed was 2700 with a very loose fitting bullet.
I shot the Bolt gun out to 1000 and made hits using a .40 cal 275 Accumax on top of 80 grians of H-4895 @ 2870 avg.
The range officer, a retired Game Warden looked at us like we were crazy when we told him what we were up to, kind of like good luck with that!
In short order we made a believer of him!
Saturday as part of the class one of the Colorado guys (John) fired the light .45 at 100 for 4 shots, three of which were in less than .200 C-C, he pulled #4 but in the end he is a believer in the capability of these guns, even a 9 3/4 lb total package .45.
speeds Saturday in the low 60s and a tighter fitting bullet averaged 2744 over 5 shots with a super low es.
You guys just getting started and that are using a full size shank don't discount this load as a user friendly, accurate, bring home the bacon recipe.
Kyle's class went very well for the first time out and I think everyone enjoyed it.
To the guys who attended, I hope you thought it was a worth while en-devour, many of you traveled a far stretch to learn about SML stuff, it was great meeting all of you!
