Terrific video. I really liked it. Looks a lot simpler in the video than it is in real life. I did a fair amount of deer hunting in northern Maine in my youngers days. I know how tough that kind of hunting can be.

X 2 on awesome video. Very well done. Definitely a different way of hunting whitetails than I’m used to. Congratulations on a very nice buck also.

I’ve hunted whitetails a lot of different ways. I have tried this way but property lines have always ended the hunt before being successful. Amazing hunt!

Back in the 60's all the neighboring farmers let each other hunt and there wasn't many deer so tracking adeer in snow was feasible, not now days, unless you are on large tracts of gov. ground. I never had much luck in crunchy snow though.

I used to follow the Benoits quite a bit and got to hang with Lanny a couple of times. It's an awesome way to hunt but those gnarly old bucks can read posted signs swear! Cool video for sure.

I used to do alot of this kind of hunting in northern Michigan . It helps to be a good grouse hunter i think . I found a 54 with a low power scope and 525gr conicals 40 to 1 much better for this . Loaded hot that trash can plows through ALOT better !!! No Comparison At All to smaller calibers . The big lead 54 is a runaway freight train in this senario i found not easily deflected . Anyplace its thick the 54 or even bigger has no equal . The recoil is hell though loaded up hot the way my gun wanted them shot to be accurate . Many memories watching this for sure !!! Ty !!! A light gun too is essential unless you get exhausted quick . Perfect for a old plunger Knight like mine . That old bk92 killed many this way when i got sick and tired of sitting . After the 2nd rut the bucks would disappear . Time to go walking !!! It IS alot of work getting them back home though !!! Whew !!!

That’s my favorite way to hunt also! I’m looking real hard at getting one of those Woodman Arms Patriot muzzle loaders too. Mark tells me the .45 is smokeless capable with the right breech plug and you can get it in a 1-20” twist Brux!

You can still hunt that way in Eastern Maine also. Good luck. In my experience, once a deer busts you on his track. You are done. We laughed a lot reading about the Benoits. Seemed like better humor then Patrick McManus. This video is by far the only proof I have seen of anyone tracking a mature buck on snow and not just getting lucky. I grew up with an old woodsman, WW2 vet, that walked up to one and shot him sleeping. But he didn't bust him first. There is no one like this guy Downeast as they say. We raised a couple of generations that hunt from their trucks. I am encouraged that some of my old friends post pictures of their kids getting out and at least getting in the woods. But the old time deer camps and generational hunting is gone for the most part. This video is the thing I miss the most about home. When I hunt in Virginia, I am just a shooter. No hunting prowess needed. Ah the old days.....sigh.
