Hi everyone. Found contact info for SMI from another board (2019) but it doesn't seem to work any more. Any thoughts on where these may be available or options to replace the plug with minimal smithing? Thanks Top

I am not familiar with their plug but the savage style ventliners may fit

Thanks Hunter. The smi plug isnt tapered like the savage 10-32 screws but will likely just get it machined to accept the savage/lenigh vents and move on! Thx for the reply!

I've got a 45 and a 50 cal SMI barrel that when new didn't have any vent-liners, just a .060" hole that he had drilled in it. I drilled and tapped them with a 10/32 tap, then used a 82 degree countersink to seat a Savage vent-liner flush with the end of the breech plug. It has worked for years that way and also solved a bulged primers problem. You might be able to do that with simple tools if you're handy or maybe know someone with a lathe. I hope this helps and welcome to the problem solving place...

I never handle an SMI but spoke to Ron Name years ago and If I remember right they used a pan head vent liner with a 10/32 thread. You could probably just screw the savage flat head vent screw in snug and it shouldn't hurt anything. What I did on a few breech plugs I modified was to use a drill bit just shy of the diameter of the flat screw head and it seated like a valve in a cylinder head. I didn't notice anymore powder residue under it than i noticed on my savage 10ml2's
