Been doing this smokeless thing now for more than 12 years and have 2 Savage ML and a 700ML converted with Savage breech plugs. I did switch to bushing plugs and really haven't had any issues with the 209 ignition. My question is, because of the Savage breech plugs, can these guns be converted to LRMP ignitions? BTW - What happened to (Ken) Rossman? He was always a great help to me as was Richard, Dave D, Hillbill, (Steve) SW, and so on. It's been a great, but expensive ride for me and my family.

If your guns are working fine with the 209 system your better off staying with what you have since all 3 guns are setup for the 209 Savage style plug and the bolts are setup for the 209 primer it would not be cheap to changing all the bolt heads and B/plugs around just to shoot a LRMP that will not yield anymore performance than what you have know. A pack of 209 primers can be had for under $5.00 for 100 shots. 50 modules with no primers would cost you $300.00 alone so is it worth it try and change your guns around, you'll have the cost of the Modules and the B/Plugs and then the bolt nose and firing pin assembly plus labor if you can't do the work. Your spending time and money to gain no more performance or accuracy than you have now. JMHO

I would agree with elkman on this one. If I was starting out with a new build I would consider the LRMP but if your Sav has worked well for 12 years what would you gain? Unless you have a stock of any LRMP primers they are almost non existent. You probably have some 209s in stock if that is what you have been using.

I spoke to soon in the good old days like last year you could find and buy 209 primers for under 5 bucks times are changing fast I see some for almost double that now. Now I know why Biden is pushing for a 1$15.00 min. wage.

Barry, As you may remember, around 2002 I got a 40 PN for a 10 ML2. It’s now in a very nice 10ML bedded, 3rd pillared and a 1.5# TT. 6x24 4200. MB installed by Richard. I have Richards excellent 700ML/45 Brux and an excellent 700ML/40 RC. Those are both class act rifles. Though not posting results yet and using QL extensively and Kyle’s bullets and a few Furys, CEBs, 200SSTs and 195Bs, I’ve shot quite a bit. Only the 10ML2 is using 209s. All (40 cal) bullets are 278gs or less and velocities are 2630-2950’/sec. Out to 300 yards, the 40PN/209s is virtually holding its own with the 2 much heavier and better made rifles. The 278s ,Jimbob’s 40, start showing an advantage at 300 over the 228s out of the 10ML2. HIS in Richard’s and Jimbob’s. I’m using a duplex in the 209 ignited ML2/40. I feel no disadvantage whatsoever with the 209 ignition.

I spoke to Fishhawk couple of weeks ago I havent been shooting or hunting smls in years, He said Ken (rossman) is still around. Last time I hunted with fishhawk and rossman was in adams county, ohio years ago. He is a great guy as well as fishhawk I didnt know about the new board until I talked to fishhawk. I've dealing with cancer and haven't hunted in Meigs county in 3 years, and went the way of 444 marlin in a lever gun. Haven't had the two sml; savage and 700ml converted out of the safe in years. Just now getting back into it. Been a lot changed in the years I've been away. It's a bummer starting over as a new member on this board I guess something happened on Doug's that caused almost all to leave.
