Well since hunting season is over for me and benchrest season is several months away I thought it might be a good time to play with the 7/300wsm again with the 190gr Bergers since I bought 500 I have plenty to play with.
Since all my other tests didn't live up to my expectations using H1000 RL 23 and RL 25 and RL 26 with 162gr bullets. I had accuracy with some loads but always ran into sticky cases when I got in the velocity range I wanted to shoot the 190gr bullets in. So just for the heck of it I started playing with RL33 it is a really slow burning powder and its also what I use in my .338 Edge the Edge shoots good with it so maybe the 7/300wsm would too. To my surprise you can get almost 75grs of RL33 in a 7/300wsm case and still seat the bullet without muck crush.
I didn't start off at 75grs because I enjoy having any my fingers and both my eyes so I loaded up 66.0gr to 70.0grs on the first attempt no problems at 70.0 grs I didn't put any on paper. So today I loaded 70.0grs 70.5 71.0 71.5 and 72.0grs of RL33 and the 190gr Berger. Temp is only 35 deg 70.0 through 72.0grs shot very well at 100 yards 72.0grs showed no more expansion on the case than 70.0grs also 72.0grs produced the best group so far. I was able to only check the velocity on 70.0grs because the strap on my Magento Speed came loose the plastic lock broke off and let the strap come loose. 70.0grs produce 2865fps so 72.0grs should be in low 2900fps range could be a little higher If I can get around 2950fps without sticking cases and good accuracy I will be a happy camper. These Winchester cases have been fired at least 5 times the primer pockets are tight and they came out of the gun without any sticking problems.
With a BC of .754 an a velocity of 2950fps that would be a great long range load to play around with. I doubt if it would shoot good enough for competition but for steel plates or rocks it would definitely can reach out to a mile.
