Well Richard? 07 Tundra 5.7 I just spent 4,884 bucks on mine at 160,000 miles for new timing chains, cam phasers, tensioners etc. not to say it's not been a good truck cause it has but the 5.7 as it turns out has a known issue of stretching timing chains past their limit and it starts making a rattling noise as mine did.
My mechanic said the engine looked like new inside, no varnish on any covers, no wear just stretched chains. I have used Mobil 1 5w-20 since I took the break in oil out @ 3,000 miles and changed at 5,000 mile intervals. Thing is there is no real rhyme nor reason for this problem, there are trucks out there with 60,000 miles with the same problem and trucks with over 500,000 miles still going strong?
I have not babied the truck but don't run the crap out of it either?
The trucks listed above have the 4.7 engine, same engine used in Lexus and the Gen 1 Tundras, the newer version the 4.6 used starting in 2010 has timing chains like the 5.7, the earlier models had a belt that has to be changed at 90,000 mile intervals which is a pain and expensive hence the move to the chain set up. My wifes GX 470 has this 4.7 belt engine and it's likely the best most durable v8 engine ever produced, hers has 332,00 on the clock and still runs great.
Will any of the 5.7 engines ever see 1 million miles? I doubt it without issues like I just dealt with.
Would I buy another Tundra? probably but even though it's well know as the most reliable half ton out there it also has had some problems. I just got mine back yesterday and fully expect to put at least another 160,000 trouble free miles on it, I will keep driving it until the son fully takes it over when he goes off to College pulling the boat along, then I will be forced to find something else.
I fully believe the Tundra is the best half ton out there, it's just not bulletproof.

I have had 1986 Toyota 4x4, 265,000 plus miles still original including clutch, zero problems. Sold to neighbor's 16 year and he trashed it in less than six months. 2000 Tundra, 4.6, 195,000 plus miles only replace throttle body, $1200. 2017 Tundra Crewmax, 26,000 no trouble except for a five axle dump trump side swapped going down interstate at 65mph plus. Wife has had three Siennas, first two over 125,000 plus miles zero issue. Guess what our next vehicle purchase will be.
