Got this joker on Indianas gun opener. Saw a buck go by but moving and no chance. I grunted and canned called a few times. He came into view, and I bleated once. He came running in full blast to about 40yds and stopped behind a tree. I had the safety off and the slack out of the trigger. One more step and I just seen his head, then he turned and took off a 100mph. I sat there and before I could think, saw movement at about 25yds. Turned and saw antlers! Swung the gun over and shot him off hand, right in the shoulder, quartering to me. He ran in a half circle a whopping 30yds, front leg hanging there. He got lower and lower until he crashed. Ride over. He must have scared off the first buck, and that one wasnt anything to be ashamed of! Used my 243 Ruger American, handloaded 85gr Sierra Gameking hpbt. It really did a number on him!

Nice buck , where in Indiana NW, Starke county. Got another dandy last year in a snow storm. Missed a super dandy this year. 🙄 First time in dont know when, that I didn't fill my buck tag. But I'm much more patient now and hold out for solid, mature deer or nothing.
