Well I gave up on this 7mm for competition so now I wanted to see what kind of velocity it would turn up with my old Hornady 162 AMX. This barrel is 30 inches long with a 1-8 twist the book says 71,0grs of RL26 for a 7WSM so I loaded up 68.5gr to 70.5 grs of reloader 26. I shot at targets at 365 yards. I am glad I said shot at because it wasn't very good. 68.5grs made it to the target and it was about a 2 inch pattern for 4 shots. saved one to check velocity. 69.0grs only 3 out of 4 got there same thing happened for 69.5 and 70.5grs. Not to surprising since I have blown these bullets up before.
The 70.5gr load went a screaming 3410fps and that is still off the max load by a full grain or more. But those bullets will not handle that velocity. A Nosler 168gr Acc LRB will handle that much speed but the important question will they shoot accurate enough at that speed. This case produces more velocity than my old 7/300 Weatherby did which burned a lot more powder.
We only have one shooter on our 1,000 yard range doing any good with a 7mm caliber. Others have tried and all have given up on the 7mm for Paper punching. That's to bad there are a lot of new bullets for the 7mm but everyone got on the ultra long high BC band wagon and it ain't working. I shot the smallest group of our two day match with my Heavy 6mm Dasher using a 103gr Vapor trail which ahs a BC of .520 the group measured 5.045 for ten shots #9 cost me a bunch or it would have been a 4.2 inch group.

I would have thought that those would stand up to 3400ish... Guess not. LOL Hope the accubonds shoot well.
I'm assuming that those are on the low end for bullet failure due to atmospheric pressure? I haven't shot any of those in the 7mm, but doesn't sound like they're worth anything on deer unless you put a whole lot of distance between you and your target.
Have you seen many other bullets fail at those speeds?
I guess less focus is placed on the 7mms for target shooting than other calibers? IF all things are equal it would be surprising to see those kinds of results. I know the 6mms and 6.5s seem to have a lot of momentum...

I decided to park the 7/300wsm no sense in putting more money into it. I built it to shoot the 190gr Hybrid which it didn't do also it has not shown me any consistent accuracy at 1,000 with any bullet I have tried so its time to pull the plug.

Understand. No sense in burning excess money that is better spent elsewhere.
Any thought on whats next?
