I recently came in possession of a previously owned Rem 700 SML with a Sako Extractor for the LRMP Modules. It Really makes getting the Modules in & out a lot easier. I have a Savage with the LRMP Bolt Head & another Rem 700 with the "Fly Cut" Bolt face as hillbill calls it. Surprising these Sako Extractors are not Standard issue on all Rem 700 LRMP Bolts.

The Sako extractors require some machining to the bolt, the reason Remington uses the extractor they do is simply economics. some say in extreme over pressure situations the Sako extractor can blow out of the bolt raceway? They do make module manipulation a little easier.
the Rem extractor likely costs a few cents to make but it still works.
IMO the flycut boltface is better by far than either but all work well, just a matter of preference.

I have installed a ton of Sako Extractors and yes, they do work good, but most of the time the factory extractor will work well and work for years. I do tell my customers that.... If the factory extractor ever goes bad, then don't waist your time putting in another factory extractor, go ahead and do the Sako Extractor.

Another reason, and more importantly, why Remington does not use the Sako extractor is because it degrades their "three rings of steel" safety system incorporated in the 700 action. First you have the bolt which surrounds the case rim (by installing the extractor you weaken #1) then you have the chamber in the barrel and third the receiver. I have installed a few myself and only did so when changing the size of the bolt face..........such as going from a small (.223) face to say a .308. (or vice/versa) The Remington extractor relies on an undercut portion of the bolt head to hold it in place and opening up the face removes this recess. A new extractor can be purchased from Brownell's for probably $10 or so and yes, they do work quite well with Hank's modules!
