I received my SPML from Jeff 3 weeks ago. All I can say is that it is much more than I ever expected. Jeff did a great job on this rifle. I appreciate the fluting on the bolt , it was an unexpected surprise. Of course Ihad to clean the barrel, then off to the range . On a clean barrel , my 1st group was "only" 1 inch c.t.c. 2nd group about the same. From then on this gun has been amazing, with most 3 shot groups being slightly less than 1/2 inch. Regardless of the load it shoots great. I forgot to mention it is .45 caliber, Remington action, Brux # 17 contour, 28 inches with radial brake, in a Manners T4 stock, with a Jewel trigger. Smallest group after 3 range trips has been .212 c.t.c. with a load of 90 grains of Benchmark, a 300 aeromax, and a cci 250 primer in HIS ignition system. 2 other loads tested have consisted of 88 grains of 10X, 300 aeromax, with 250 cci primer, and 102.5 grains H4895, 300 aeromax, cci 250 primer. The rifle is not fussy about the type of load. I do need some feedback on a problem I had. I did have 1 failure to fire on the Benchmark load. The primer did not fire, it appears the firing pin strike was not "deep" enough. When Removed the module, there were a few granules of powder on the floor of the action. Another module was placed and rifle fired normally. My theory is that these granules of powder came out of the spent module from the previous shot and a granule somehow worked its way into the firing pin hole, not allowing a full strike. When I got home, the breechplug was removed and I poured a small amount of Benchmark into the end of the plug. Sure enough, a few granules of powder fell thru the bushing hole. I checked the flame channel, an .036 torch tip will pass thru, the next size larger is .0385 and will not pass thru. I always load on a spent module, so I am thinking this powder came out of the spent module from previous shot. I will add that this rifle only has 40 shots thru it. Opinions are appreciated.

Is that the recommended powder? I thought he had a standard load and that powder had bigger grains.

Congratulation on the new deer stick.
IF you happen to have loaded without a spent module and powder came thru it's possible to get a granule down through the firing pin hole, unlikely but I have had it happen to me before. One must remove the firing pin from the bolt to clean out the crushed powder granule. Benchmark and H-4895 are pretty fine powders Benchmark is on avg about .025-.027 H-4895 is .030-.033 so yes without a spent module in place you might get some powder thru the bushing, especially with a snug fitting bullet or a load using a wad.
both powders are excellent powders for upper end speed, 4895 is very temp stable so be aware of that when developing hunting loads, Benchmark is good too, just not as stable as 4895.
Benchmark is in it's sweet spot with a 300 grain bullet, 4895 favors the heavier stuff but still works well with a 300.

I had a granule get between the action and barrel upon closing the gun and the hammer wouldnt stay cocked back, thats when I noticed the mashed granule.I'm always pushing a wire through the flash hole, mine seems to get carbon or whatever in it.

I shoot Benchmark at 88grs and am extremely happy with it.

You can also load on that spent module...then, with the muzzle facing downward, open the bolt and remove it...with the barrel facing downward, insert the new module...only close the bolt far enough to hold the module in place..not enough to cock it. You can do that when ready to fire. This will eliminate any powder getting out of the chamber. Here are some loads you might also try using IMR-8208 350 AeroMax 90.5 gr. 2900 fps 350 AeroMax 91.5 gr. 2928 325 AeroMax 90.5 gr. 2959 300 AeroMax 95 gr. 3093 300 AeroMax 96 gr. 3100 Here is a ladder test from May 28th. hanksmessageboard.freeforums.net/thread/5131/more-satterlee-graphsIf you want a hot light weight bullet for varmints?...230 HAP (Hornady Action Pistol) with a duplex of 10 gr. N-110 under 65 gr. of H-4198 for a velocity of 3250 fps, and ES of 10 and a three shot group of .730" at 100 yards. Not quite the accuracy of the high dollar bullets (about $0.30 ea.) but for just playing?

On my bolt gun I have had issue closing my bolt because of grains of powder. The other issue I have had is if I go from arrowhead ASG2 regular modules to Hankins ASG2 AB modules. I have to use more force to close the bolt. Hankins are just a little bit longer than the Arrowheads. I have to scrap out the carbon build up where the module fits into the plug. Once I do that it is golden. I had to clean out the same thing on my Hankins Conversion every now and then to get the gun to work like it should.

outdoors81, yeah I get buildup just in front of the module nipple too, I use a cheap little pick to get it out. It builds up on the little rim that the tungsten bushing butts up against.
