Does porting a barrel really reduce muzzle blast \ or muzzle jump and how does it effect accuracy?

Porting works a lot like a brake except it is part of the barrel instead of an extension to the barrel.. It will reduce muzzle jump but it would think the muzzle blast will be worse.

Drop Why do you say they will all have cut rifling? is there a differnece in accuracy? Cut rifling is considered to be more accurate and the preferred barrel of bench rest shooters. Drop has a cut rifled barrel on one or more of his guns and I have one also. I don't think I'll be able to do mine justice but we'll see. Also have a Douglas button rifled barrel on a break open that does well. I want to research a polygonal rifled barrel some day. There are some other guys on another board and maybe here that have dabbled in those. There's lots of good reading out there on the .net to be had and I'm sure many here will chime in.

porting a barrel
1.will substantially increase the noise level to the shooter, been down that road.. 2.it will reduce muzzle jump if properly done. 3.it should not affect accuracy if done properly

As hillbill said it will reduce muzzle jump and not affect accuracy if done properly.
It will increase the noise level quite a bit, so if you have neighbors nearby were you shoot this may be a consideration.
When you put on a treaded muzzle break on you can always choose to remove it and place the cap on, when you port the barbell, that’s it you’re stuck with it.
Additionally you may be more accurate with the gun due to the reduced recoil and less chance of flinching on the shot from the anticipated recoil of a hard shooting rifle.
Good luck.

Porting has been pretty well discussed here but I'll add one other thing. Those ports tend to by really small and they get dirty. It can be hard to get them clean in my experience with shotguns and my experience with copper in breaks is that it never really gets taken care of. Probably not a huge concern but if shot enough they will need to be cleaned somehow.
Rambler,
I've had poly barrels, if you have questions hit me up.
