So, did a little more shooting/testing yesterday at the club with Herman, who had purchased a box of Eley Match (black box for close to $20) He offered to let me test a few of these "alleged" jewels
The weather conditions were about a perfect as can be. 80*, cloudy and ZERO wind at 50 yards...........for that matter at 300 also! I started by shooting four ten shot groups with Wolf Rifle Match (not the Xtra). These four groups averaged .680" at an average velocity of 1083 fps with an ES of 38.3 fps on the LabRadar.
Immediately following, I shot two five shot groups with Herman's Eley Match Ammo. These two groups averaged .612". Their combined velocity was 1085 fps with an ES of 34 fps.
Again, immediately following these two groups I shot SIX 10 shot groups with the S&K Rifle Match ammo I used in the previous match. These six groups groups averaged .550" at an average velocity of 1042 fps with an average ES of 37 fps.
This is why testing various ammunition in YOUR .22 is necessary. I am glad I did not buy a brick of that Eley Ammo. Herman came away with the same conclusion in his new CZ .22. It plain did not shoot! Plus, he had a misfire? The indent looked good on the case but it did not fire. At the match last week, another of the top shooters with the benchrest .22's? He was shooting Tenex and he had two misfires?
Not only did the S&K outshoot the Eley but the ES over 60 shots was very close to the Eley Match with only 10 shots?
Anyway, having fun! Which is all that counts
