Well finally got to shoot this gun today at 100 yards our ranges are still closed but a friend of a friend let me shoot at his farm. Conditions were good enough for 100 yard groups and breaking the barrel in. I tested the Berger 180gr vld and the new
190gr Hybrid. both using RL 25 and Win. brass with Br2 primers.
The barrel is 29 inches long plus the brake. I tested 66.0 grs of RL25 and 66.5grs of RL25 with the 180gr vld's jammed into the lands .010 maybe a little more VLD'S either shoot best jammed or jumped I start off jammed. I shot 3 shot groups and cleaned between each 3 shot string till I shot 9 shots and then shot 6 shots at a time. All groups tests were three shots only. I didn't shoot any in between shots to foul the barrel after each cleaning because I was looking for two things grouping and then velocity. the 180gr bullets shot well with both powder charges it looks like I could go up to 67grs to see want happens all the loads I tested today showed no signs of pressure or hard bolt lift or click at the top of the bolt opening.
The test with the 190gr Hybrid was very encouraging I started off low at 63.5grs of RL25 and worked up to 66.5grs of RL25 My best group came with 65.0grs which produced a really nice little bug hole group 66.0 and 66.5grs opened up quite a bit compared to anything else I shot so it looks like 65.0 grs will be my 1k test load to work around.
The velocity was as follows with 180gr vld 66.5grs produced 2970fps right in my target zone for velocity. the 190gr with 65.0grs which produced the smallest group when 2900 even these velocities will go up a little with warmer weather and once the barrel has around 100 rounds through it you always get a velocity jump after the barrel is worn in so I will have to adjust as I go. Don't know why pictures came out sideways
