NICE 👍 Is it a Rock Creek .400”/.408” 1:15 Twist? It is a Preferred rifle barrel blank. .400-.408. Set up for Hank's Precision Gun Parts... I have them in stock, but not listed on the website yet. What maker and twist are those barrels Jeff?

I had Tony Gettel from Tony’s grips and forearm make it to match my stock. Tony does a wonderful job and the forearm was110.00 shipped to my door. The forearm is a 12 ga dimensions. Tony’s is the only place I could find to make it and he has made me several Encore pistol sets in the past, he does a outstanding job. +1, I’ve got the same one on my TC Encore .40 Cal 👍

I have decided to get a .40 barrel from Jeff for my Encore. Plan is 26 1/2” plus brake, with the brake turned to match the barrel OD. Will be sporting one of Jeff’s Radial Tactical brakes in 3/4”x 32 thread, with a thread protector turned to barrel OD as well for times I may not be shooting with the brake installed. I’ll be modifying my muzzleloader fore end to accommodate the 1” barrel and mount a ramrod underneath the barrel using one of Jeff’s stainless steel 1” barrel bands. Finish will be bead blasted to match my already bead blasted frame. I will be testing the 228 grain .402” AccuMax Hard Core with IMR4198 when it’s ready to go.

These will make great carry rigs and for all practical purposes if legal where you hunt they will do all you need in an every day hunting scinerio. the 228 is the hardcore version of the 225, I have not fired any but for a low recoil load it would be my hunting bullet of choice.

I’m figuring that my shot will be 75 yards or less where I plan to use this gun. My impact velocity will likely be above 2700 FPS. The first shot that presents itself may be the only shot opportunity. The Hard Core will likely penetrate better at this higher impact velocity in a variety of shot angles.

Kyle, I think a # of us are interested in your shooting, most likely - I can’t speak for others though, because your using a faster powder than normal for a 40 - H4198. This is parallel to my using a reduced load of 37g VV110 /200g bullet in my 45 OBO rifle. Reduced loads work best when the powder used is at least within the powder’s optimal pressure operating range. For a 209/45, VV110/37 works much better than 42 H4198 for a reduced load. Accuracy and temp sensitivity are much better.
Low pressure isn’t our friend. Whether a reduced load or full performance load, optimal powder pressure should be sought. If I wanted a reduced 40 cal load with your 228 AccuMax, I’d choose H4198 to test at least vs H4895, etc.
We’re all watching.

59.5 gr of IMR4198 in this rig, according to my Quickloads input, should be at 50300 PSI, on the node at 1.1057 ms and yield a velocity of 2856 with a 100% burn. Might try H4198 after IMR4198, but I have IMR4198 so that is what I'm trying first. To get the same pressure, 50300, with H4895, according to my Quickloads inputs, I'd have to shoot in the neighborhood of 85.0 gr. Estimated velocity is 3116 with a 97% burn. I suspect H4895 would be very dirty with this bullet choice, and I dont need that much muzzle velocity as well.

We’re on the same wavelength.
I need to get quick load on my iPad. Understand if I take a before and after picture of my old original disc , unbroken and broken, I’ll get a reduction on cost for a digital download.

Got my .40 cal Encore barrel today from Jeff. I have the barrel on the frame and the scope is mounted. I need to do a little forearm work with a 1 inch wooden dowel and some sandpaper. After that I should be good to go to the range. Shooting for Wednesday of next week if schedule and weather permits.

Jeff suggested that a radial brake would better fit the build since I wanted it turned to the diameter of the barrel. So we went with a radial brake. Will probably work on the forearm today.
