Getting a 50 cal Omega set up for my nephew. Have plenty bullets to try and inquiring if any need try .430 ie 44 cal bullets with the BH209. Have couple boxes and packs of green sabots from my earliest SML in ML2 days. They are 265 and 270 grain bullets.
Tried my .458X300 grain in BCR and that difficult on clean bore and impossible to load after 1st shot. The .452 X 300 and 250 XTP loads tight but not so accurate. So far got best accuracy with 200 X 40 SST and 225 X 40 Fury star tips in the dark blue sabots. Thinking that the 44 cals in the green sabots might be good. What experience with the 44 loadings on BH209 have you had?
Thanks for any info and insight. 10ga

Update on load development: After reading itneverends22 post went searching the cabinet. Found some .429 type bullets and green sabots from my early like 2007 learning curve with the ML2. Tried 4 bullets and found some good loads, better than I was getting with .451 and 452 or .458 bullets. Bullets were the 200 grain XTP, 240 grain deep curl, 265 FTX and 270 deep curl. Plus supply of dark green sabots. Results were: 265 and 270 shot OK but not as good as the lighter bullets. The 240 shot almost moa and the 200 shot right at moa. Load for the best groups of the 240 and 200 were 100 grains by volume = 70 grains weighed of BH209. Range 100 yd. Rifle Omega X7 with 23 inch .501 SS barrel, QLA removed and barrel re-crowned. Petes plug with ventliner. Cleaned bore after each 3 shot group with wet patch of Ed's Red in/out turn patch over repeat. Then 2 patches of in/out turn and repeat. Temp 48 F. Wind from 6 straight down range 5-8 mph. I'll try some more testing again with the 230 to 250 grain .450 type bullets. Just not sure how those 200 grain by .429 bullets do on terminal performance on deer at 120 to 200 yd. Guess if I'm starting them at 2100 they should be OK down range. More info later on load development. 10ga
PS: I'm saving my dollars and cents to get "Bestill" to do a faster twist 50 SML barrel for this gun. Possible clearance sale in the future for raising funds.

Best combo I’ve ever had with consistent ragged holes at 100yds with every Omega that I’ve owned was 110gr bh209 (volume) harvester short black sabot and a 250gr Barnes TMZ for hunting load. Sub out the Barnes for a Hornady SST or a 260gr Harvester PTgold for paper punching. I always has the exact POI with any of the three bullets.

10gaauto, the terminal performance on the 225 ftx has been awesome so far,out of the 4 deer he shot, all were 1 shot pass thrus , dropped in their tracks, with hardly any meat damage.. the ranges he said was from 50 to 140ish yards. hope this helps..

The TMZ is a boattail and the Harvester short black sabot is for flat based bullets. I have read that some tried the TMZ in a flat based sabot with good results, so if that is what you are using, then that's another good report for that load combo.

Been about 5yrs since I’ve shot a smoke gun and was thinking it was the other way around.
