I have a 700 from the early 90's, it has a synthetic camo stock and the barrel was painted camo from the factory. The recoil pad sucks and I want to replace it. The pad does not have a butt plate and it is just glued to the stock. I have never seen this before, can I assume that I can cut this off and use a Limbsaver slip on pad ?

Something I would try before I resorted to cutting the glued pad off. Using an electric heat gun I would put some heat on the plastic pad. Then carefully, while the pad is hot, use a putty knife or something of the sort to try and pop the pad off the stock. Depending on the glue bond it might come off relatively easy this way. If that doesn't work then I would resort to cutting it off.
