Does anyone have any ideas for new shooting events at the Kentucky Challenge Spring 2016 Shoot? Jeff and I are trying to work out details on the running deer.
Suggestions would be in addition to the 100, 200 and 300 yard for group, the offhand shoot and steel gongs out to 350 yards.

how about shooting clay targets at 300 or 350? We shoot water bottles at 300 and 400 yards. Pretty neat to see the splashes. usually we shoot until we miss then it is the next guys turn. Try to see how many in a row you can shoot.

I thought about a speed shoot. Anyone have access to a shot timer?

Drop.. Milk jugs at the 350 yard mark would be fun and smaller bottles at closer distance.,, so start saving
Bestill.. I like scoring, what king of target do we need to keep score on..?
Kyle.. I like speed shoot idea too, how would this work?
Also I'm pretty sure we will have some break action guns here again this spring so there will be a division for those guys also.

If I'm able to make this event and I haven't sold my break open I'll bring it along with my new gun and try and compete in both divisions.

I'm thinking a 5 shot speed shoot for time and accuracy at 100 yards. Maybe have a 4" gong at 100 and as soon as the buzzer goes off, fire your first shot. Then you reload and shoot 4 more times and the time stops when the last shot is fired. All shots shot from the bench, miss a shot and you're out. Fastest time takes all.

I have been saving a few milk jugs for such an occasion. I like the idea of adding color to the water!

Any interest in a Savage stock 50 challenge? I know the majority of folks here have the super builds. What about the masses and those that have found great shooting Savages? I know that they can and will shoot....either at speed or at slow speeds and big bullets.
Have a 100 yd open class for group and maybe a LONG range gong challenge.
I have loads for my gun with 325 FTX's @ 2,500 fps and loads with 370 gr LBT hard lead bullets @ 1,480 fps that at sub 2 MOA all day long out to as far as I can shoot. Sounds very in-accurate to you guys with super builds but accurate enough that none of you would want to stand at 400 yds while I shoot at you! LOL
I only hunt with this gun 2 days per year (last weekend of ML season) but the deer are always close so the long range part is only for fun when I practice. Back in the day, I spent as much, or more time, then most of you trying to figure things out in the early days. And I did! Hunting accuracy, 12" gong killing. Nailed dozens of groundhogs, several dozen deer and a zillion targets with this gun. It's ugly but deadly and fun.
A competition with the gun that started it all would be very much fun for me. Could I make it? Less than 50-50. However, I bet there is a whole bunch on "me's" out there who feel like they are WAY outclassed....yet kill tons of deer and take pride in decent, everyday good shooting.

I like the idea of making a few different divisions at the shoot. Jeff has said in the past that all types of muzzleloaders are welcome. Even though this is not a prize shoot, I'm sure that shooters would like to "compete" against those evenly matched. Maybe have a black/sub powder division, smokeless sabot division, light gun smokeless and heavy gun smokeless?

Im all for making classes. Here's what we can do. To make a deprecate class for a particular rifle we will need at least three guns in that class., so if we have three guys show up with break action guns then there will be a break action class. If we get three guys that show up with a 50 caliber Savage then we can have a 50 class. For the hot rod SML's they would be considered unlimited so this would keep this class the biggest since beans is right about most of us shooting the hot rod guns.
I might even be able to come up with some awards for the winner..,

no one is outclassed @ these shoots-we simply have fun! there is not anyone to my knowledge that would not let anyone shoot their mz & loads if requested etc.
last shoot iirc Richard & schunter carpooled & made it happen from nc approx.-- I think they have already signed & returning for #4
look forward to meeting more newcomers & re-uniting with the gang! de.
