Anyone running one of these? I have a 7 Rem Mag im pretty fond of... but toying with the idea of rounding up an STW. Curious to see everyone’s thoughts!

I shot a custom build about 20 years ago or so. From what I remember it shot real good, kind of an attention getter on the shoulder. I'm sure a muzzle brake would have fixed that particular rifle.

I have had one since about 1995. Strictly in a heavy long range setup 60lb gun. With a 36 inch long barrel. The 7 STW like any overbore its just that if you don't run a longer barrel than 26 inches you are much better off with the straight 7 Mag. The STW needs heavy chargers of slow burning powder to make it work it is a very accurate cartridge but it really won't come to life in a short barrel. I also have had a 7mm/300 Weatherby for many years they are basically the same thing in velocity and accuracy. The Weatherby brass cost more and doesn't last very long under heavy loads.

My 7/300 Weatherby and my 7 STW run neck and neck. Both need barrels longer than 26 inches to get the velocity out of each one because of the over bore capacity. I set my 7/300 barrel back to 27 inches and made it a straight 7mm Weatherby which is probably the most efficient of the three. The 7mm Weatherby seems to have been over looked mainly because of the excessive freebore Weatherby uses. I bought a new Krieger 30 inch 1-8 twist barrel and probably will chamber it up for another 7mm Weatherby. I use 270 Weatherby brass from Norma its good brass and its fairly cheap.
