Hello, My name is Shawn and I hail from So Eastern Indiana. I have been a hobby Smith for about 2 yrs and love it. I recently got tired of looking at an unused rifle and after much thought decided a SML was what my collection was missing. So I ordered the Rich Franklin dvd and a Shilen 457 30" blank. It was to cheap to pass up on and my plan is to use .452 bullets, hopefully some of the 300gr partions I bought because they were to cheap to pass on! Got home and didnt have a use for them!

Welcome to the board.
Richard Franklin was one of the pioneers in smokeless muzzle loading and did some beautiful work, both with CF rifles as well as smokeless. I learned how to bed a rifle, mainly from his article on 6mmbr.com as well as his DVD's.
Having said that, ignition systems have vastly improved over Richard's system, and bullet sizing process have allowed for many more types of bullets than he used. You can learn a lot from this site, and I advise you do so prior to going forward on your project.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good no nonsense solid information here. I see you have a Shilen barrel. They can be good but beware that the land to land dimension is equal from muzzle to breech....we are dealing with only a ten thousandths or two. If it's tighter at the muzzle, you will be sizing for that....as the bullet goes down, it will loosen and not provide good pressure....Conversely, a loose muzzle will cause the bullet to become too tight when seated. I have seen this with Shilen barrels....not so with Brux and Kreiger. The bore needs to be even from muzzle to breech in a muzzle loader using sabot-less bullets!
