Every year in June we have a two day shooting school. We cap it 24 students and 12 instructors. The guys and girls are taught how we reload our ammo for a 1,000 yard match. We go over everything possible to help new shooters get started. On Saturday half a day is spent on reloading and then after lunch break we go to the range and let the students learn how we setup our match rifles for the match. They get to shoot at clay birds on the back bank behind our 1,000 yard targets which makes that 1050 yards. They learn how to use the elevation and windage knobs and how to dial into their impact shot. After that they can go back in and load more ammo for practice. At the end of the day they must load all their ammo for the match we hold on Sunday morning. The instructor will help with the reloading if the students need help.
Our format in the past was to have the new shooters only shoot 5 shots for record but since we always shoot 10 we changed that to 10 this year to make it the same as our matches. The instructor stays with the shooter at all times when it is his or her turn to shoot. Safety is a be factor we don't want anyone every to get injured at our range. The instructor sets the gun up for the new shooter and helps them get onto the sighter target after that the new shooter must make their own scope corrections and must shoot all 10 shots for record without the help of the instructor no coaching at that point.
Conditions today were typical at our range it was windy but it was a fairly constant wind which helped a lot. For the last three years at least one of my students has won their relay for either groups size or score this time around was no different my student won for score with a 93 out of 100 loosing his last shot out to the left . We had one woman shooter at our school and let me tell you that women could shoot she won for group and score and also shot a 99 out of 100 score.
This school sells out every year it cost $475.00 which includes a one year club membership that's $60.00 and a good lunch on Saturday and a really good steak cook out on Sat. evening. I don't know where you can go to any other shooting school in the country and get the kind of experience we offer so if your interested you will have to wait till next April to apply.
