Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone does a maintenance to the H.I.S. Plugs, or does everyone just keep shooting them.

Clean them when ever you remove the plug. Just clean the plug, don't try to remove the bushing,,,, unless you do so after every range session) or you will strip out the set screw.

I put the plug and deprimed modules in a sonic cleaner every 75 shots... I does a really good job for the most part... whether right or wrong I have 75 modules and do it it faithfully when all primers are shot

How do you make sure the flame path through the bushing stays clear when cleaning?

Welding torch tip cleaners have always worked well for me to keep flame path clean

Welding torch tip cleaners have always worked well for me to keep flame path clean And an air blast from air compressor or canned air to dry it out.

I use a sonic cleaner to clean my his modules ,breach plug and brake. I add hot water and a little lyman turbo sonic and run for 15 minutes. All come out looking like new. Take them out and lay on dry rag. Being hot the water disenpates very fast.

I do not like to use torch cleaning bits for fear of opening up the bushing prematurely. I’m sure they would be fine when used with care. I personally use drill bits to clean and check my bushing wear. The nice thing about the HIS system it does not take a lot of Maintenance

“Carbon Killer” does a good job also. Can you use non-chlorinated brake cleaning spray to clean the H.I.S. plug? It is supposed to be great at getting rid of carbon, and it is only $5 a can.

Yes sir you can, works very well matter of fact, I also take a metal dental pick and break loose the carbon ring on top of the bushing every time I have the plug out, I not it will continue to build up, don't know that it hurts anything but I scrape it loose anyway.

Brake clean is extremely useful. I used to get cases of it when the parts store did a buy one get one free. I'd get like $90 worth of brake clean for $45. (I have not seen that deal in a long time. I think they caught on to me.) I still have a case left. Lol Personally, I use some bore cleaner and a "toothbrush" style cleaning brush for scrubbing. Then I blast it with brake clean to flush away the grime. Repeat if any spots need extra scrubbing. If the toothbrush doesn't cut it I have a little jar of old used up bore brushes. I'll pick one out and scrub with that instead. Yes, I also chip out that little carbon spot that builds up on the module side of the bushing. I have a sonic cleaner too, but don't feel it is worth the hassle just to clean the plug. Just my personal opinion. If you want to clean the modules too, then yes, I definitely see a sonic cleaner as being useful. It just depends on personal preference.
