Hi, new to the board here. Thanks for having me.
I picked up a T/C Encore Super 209x45 ML barrel. I used to shoot the 209x50 barrel about a decade ago. Got out of the ML scene for a while.
I am wanting to perhaps shoot this 45 caliber barrel sabotless. It appears to be a 28" twist barrel. What exactly do I need to do to shoot this sabotless?
A bit of background on myself: I typically hunt deer during gun season with a handgun of some sort (XP-100 7mm RSAUM; T/C Encore 30-338WM, Ruger 454 Casull, etc.). So I am also considering cutting the barrel down to 16.5"-17.5" length and using it as a handgun setup. My passion is handgun hunting.
BH209 is also the powder I plan to use.
Thanks. Rog

With that twist you may be better to shoot Harvester blue 45/40 sabots with a 195 or 200 grain bullets I feel this may do better than sabot less BH-209 is a very good choice of powder

When I picked up the barrel, I was hoping it was a 20" twist... It has measured out to be a 28" twist. I think even sabotless, choosing shorter length bullets will be ok I hope.
I intend to try the Harvester light blue sabot as well as sabotless.
Thanks for the reply.

Try a thin skinned bullet such as a Parker 275gr BE. I'm not sure how tight a .45 TC barrel is, you may need to size the bullet first. I prefer all copper bullets for hunting, so I tried a Barnes 250gr TEZ in my .45 cal. Knight Disc Elite with a 1:30 twist. It did alright at 100yds and I would hunt with it, but I would limit my shot distance. The rifle is sighted in with a Barnes 195 Expander in a Harvester light blue sabot, that's why the shots are low. 100yds, 120gr BH209, 250gr Barnes TEZ, bullet knurled, .060 veggie wad Picture with recovered TEZ bullet, not much rifling engraved on the bullet Thicker skinned 250gr Hornady FTX was a no go for accuracy, this one hit a foot to the left of the target, very faint rifling marks

Ive never gotten the FTXs/SSTs to shoot worth a hoot using BH209. Lots of random key holing. Parker 275gr BE and Nosler 250gr SG were by far the easiest.

Same here and i have tried hard. I could not get the Barnes to fly worth a crap sabotless.
I shoot a lot of Blackhorn and I shoot a LOT of Knight rifles . Do your self a big favor. Shoot Kyles Pittman Accumax 275 or Parkers BEs 250 or 275s.

BEs are soft short and stubby .Easy to get to shoot in that 1-30. Also preform well at smoker speeds

Thanks for all the replies. I have a 1:28" twist barrel, and have been initiating the collection of things needed for next year. Hopefully, I'll get this barrel ready to go soon.
