hello, New member here my name is Brian and I’m from a little town in the center of Washington state called Ellensburg. I work as a firefighter/paramedic and also help out on family farm on my days off. I’m a avid outdoorsman and have had the opportunity to hunt multiple different states with my main passion elk and deer. So that what leads me to this board and I warn you now I will have a bunch of questions 😜. I have ordered from Jeff a custom 28 inch 1:20 twist Brux barrel with muzzle brake for my Thompson pro hunter plus all the other goodie that go along with it. I have also been in contact with kyle at Pittman bullets and have been put on the list for his 300 grain Aeromax bullets. I’m in the process of tracking a scope down but have narrowed it down to a nightforce or Sig whiskey 5. This all in prep for a New Mexico unit 17 bull hunt and that are state just change over from musket caps to 209 ignition systems. So far warning questions will fly once all the goodie start to arrive and the shooting begins.

Welcome Brian Lots of good folks here, ask all the questions you want, we will answer as best we know how.
Scopes? I would also consider the Sightron S-Tac 2.5x17.5 in the 760.00 range and very good glass for the money, great clarity, good adjustments, great illumination. I really like mine, I have a Whiskey 5 and the S-Tac gets my vote over the Sig

Thanks I will check them out! The old rumor was that the recoil of a muzzleloader would knock recitals out in a lot of scope and you needed a special muzzleloader designed scope any truth to this.

Yes these guns are tough on scopes. A good quality pic rail bedded to the receiver, good rings and a tough scope are in order. So far the Sig has held up, so has the S-Tac. the SHV you mentioned will fit the bill as well.
I have heard some good stuff about the Athlons but the verdict is still out.

Welcome to the board Brian! We don't have many folks from out your way. Lots of good information. Like Bill indicated, a good one piece steel pica tinny type rail bedded and I even glue mine to the receiver. A little heat will always loosen them if you need to remove. Just use lock-tite on the screws. Keep the scope as low as possible. I personally like the tactical type rings with six screws per ring.
