I am looking for a resource manual or www that I can use to determine which Mod 99 in 308 win. I was told it is a 99 EG, but I would like to be certain that is correct.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks, Boarhog

Post up a picture and I can tell you, I have and have had several 99s over the years, arguably the best lever ever made. The EG has a Schnabel forend and was made in several calibers, it was among the lightest and best handling 99s built and still very popular. the most desirable calibers are 250-3000 and 308, most were 300 Savage.

Yes it's a 99 pre mil EG, if it's an original 308 caliber its one of the more sought after 99s, not rare but a good deer stick.
The ole 99 is arguably the best lever gun ever made, I have a post mil .308 that will cloverleaf the 150 core-lokt with a 1.5x5VXIII on top. the most accurate factory gun I own. they sold well over a million of those guns for good reason, at the turn of the century it was well ahead of it's time, even today for those that have used them we find them hard to top for a mid range carry gun.
the later model box magazine guns are good too but the ones I have owned just dont have the same character as the rotary mag guns do, some say the rotary receiver guns are more accurate due to a stiffer receiver than the box guns? I really don't know but I dare to say that if Savage ever did reintroduce the 99 in the modern calibers of 260/ 6.5 creed/ 7-08 etc it would sell like hot cakes, I know I would be the first in line for one.

I know I would line up to buy a new one in any of those calibers! Add .284, and .358 Win to my list. As far as I can tell, this one is an original .308, and is very accurate with Rem 150 Gr PCL and Hornady 180 gr SP. I am looking for a pistol grip cap for mine now. Somehow got broken and lost without me noticing. Thanks for your reply! Robert English Boarhog
