I was wondering if anyone on here has experience with the 7mm/300WM (Practical) wildcat ? I ask Mr.Hankins about it and he said he's never built one but that the build seems pretty straight forward... So, I'm thinking Mr.Hankins just may be building his first "7mm Practical" for me... I. welcome and appreciate all knowledgeable views and pros/cons comments about this cartridge if you care to share your thoughts on it... Thanks

I think both those case capacities will be very similar if you necked one up and the other down or visa versa. I am not seeing where the gain is but this would not be the first time I was wrong or I didn't catch on.
I shoot a 7 STW with a 30" bbl. Off the top of my head that gun shoots a 190 matrix bullet at 3100 fps. I think that case capacity is about 10 grns more on average for powder charge vs a standard 7 mag. Again off the cuff so don't bank on it.

It occurred to me that you may have been talking Weatherby mag not win mag. In that case I suspect you are talking the same basic case volume of the 7 STW.

I have used both the 7mm/300 WHBY with a 1-9 twist 30" barrel and a 7mmSTW with a 1-8 twist Krieger 36" long. barrel that's in a bedding block. both are about equal in powder Capacity. The 7STW turns up more velocity because of the long barrel. I shoot the 195gr Berger EOL bullet at 3280fps it does shoot extremely flat out to 1,500 yards I have not gone past that distance. In high elevation around 9500 feet that would shoot unbelievably flat out to 2,000 yards around here it is only 1500 feet at our highest point it does make a big difference.

Linebaugh, the (7mm "Practical") is a 300 win mag necked to 7mm... it is a carefully thought out version of the "typical" 7mm/300win mag.. shoulder moved back and changed to 30°...(so the neck length can grow easier) it takes a few fired round's to attain the ideal length which I don't recall all the specifics offhand.. I just want a wildcat based on a cartridge that is easy to attain and is cheaper (which I read alot of various gun forums and its much easier to find brass and definitely less cost... and since I already have several hundred 300 win mag cases I chose this WC.. Its not as spectacular as the 7/300 Weatherby or 7STW but its still pretty quick...
