HI ALL My name is Dave Charles and I am an old retired guy in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I have been a muzzleloader hunter for about 15 years and a deer hunter since 1965. I am a part time gunsmith and served as an armorer and firearms trainer for Illinois Conservation police for 25 years. I look forward to learning about smokeless muzzle loaders from the members here. I currently own a Savage ML II and plan on building a new SML 45 in the near future.

At this point in my life I only hunt Illinois. Mostly Johnson and Williamson counties. I hunt with my crossbow and BP muzzleloader (knight KP1 ) I have a MLII but I have never hunted with it. I've only shot the MLII about 10 times since I bought it new. I'm getting lazy and don't want to clean my KP1 as often so I plan to build another .45 SML or two. I enjoy hunting with firearms I have built.

Welcome to the board.
Yes, taking a deer with a ML one has built themselves gives a person a great amount of satisfaction.

I enjoy building guns. I've built rifles and handguns on Mauser and Enfield actions. I've assembled many variations of AR 15, also some 12ga bolt actions and some 22's as well as SA pistols and revolvers. I build for hunting and not for paper punching. For me, targets are just to make sure my game shots are true.

I've been addicted for a long time. I'm just trying to learn a new way with less smoke.

Welcome to the board Dave. I was also a police armorer and build my share of SML's along with bench rest rifles for 1K and 600 yard IBS competition. A better bunch of members you will not find anywhere.
