25 years ago we had them plenty here in the mountains but I haven't seen one in years, some say they are on the comeback, I certainly hope so, my son has never seen one. beautiful birds and very good table fare..

It is the same for us here in Ohio with quail and pheasants. Really haven't seen any to speak of in years. Never any grouse here at all.

Without a doubt the best meat that comes out of the wild. See some whenever I'm in the Blue Ridge hunting. I have shot at many and even killed a few. What make gun is that OU you're carrying and 20 or 12 over?? thanks for the pic. 10

I wish Ohio would have a trade like that.

Coyotes on the rise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plenty of coywolfs, fishers, bob cats, fox and even lynx here not to mention others and they are all predators of the grouse.. I think its probably disease, or food in states that should have them but don't.

I keep a 30-06 cartridge in the lower tube while I'm out bird hunting just encase I run into something bigger at distance that needs killing.

I am guessing you are more south and east of me. I am in the Shelby Co/Mercer Co area. The only quail I hear are from my neighbors pen across the road.

I shot thirteen grouse last October and still have a few in the freezer. They really come on strong here in November but I was hard at deer hunting then and didn't want to spook the bucks I was after.
