I had a chance to take a yearling doe this afternoon with the Pittman Accumax .40 in 225 grains. Just shy of 100 yards, took out the top of the heart and exited and broke 3 ribs. Dropped right where it stood. Seems like it did what it was designed for and fits nicely after sized to .401 in my PacNor barrel. Thanks for producing the same. Sorry, no photos.

If you don't mind Jim, what was your estimated velocity or for that matter, load. I killed 2 deer this season with the 225 from my 23" McGowen 40 barrel smooth formed over 74gr of imr3031 with LRMP. Velocity around 2850. Devastating to put it mildly. These things really shoot in my Rock Creek 40. I've had them up to an average of 3401fps with a .4" group. That was a totally un-tuned load that I came up with in QL during our initial bullet testing. I think I'll take the 250's to the shoot this year and stretch them out. Gotta keep Richard on his game

Scat: I was nowhere near that. My speed was 2543 fps, I used 10 grains of 4759 and 60 grains of Varget.

I'll be waiting for you Jerry! I have no doubt the .40's will be a big contender but still think the .45's can compete. My main reason for not shifting to the .40 is economic and practical. For me, specialized (wildcat) stuff (and I have my share of wildcat cartridges/rifles) gets hard to dispose of (sell) by family members if one should "Pass!". Also, the only place to do any competitive shooting (if you can call it that?) is at the Challenge twice a year? Since the Challenge is more about eating and fellowship, I can do that with a .45. Then there is the cost of bullets? Today, I shot 35 bullets which is about normal EVERY week? Am I going to have to shoot $2 bullets? Sure I could shoot SST's and the like but it the longer heavier bullets where the accuracy is at..............So, I will stick with the .45 where I can shoot more affordable XTP's, TEZ's and Fury's and save Kyle's bullets for last minute dialing in and the Challenge:)

My 40 with a 16X scope is no match rifle for sure. Now it might be another story when the son of Cyclops hits the bench. I hear he is gonna be ready for the shoot. Look forward to seeing you again Richard.

Son of Cyclops.......................Now that could be trouble!!!! Sooooooooooooooo much has to do with pulling the trigger at the right time with the right condition that one three shot group hardly tells the story? When you go to matches and have to shoot four five shot groups for an average, then it starts to mean something We could all probably shoot that Challenge three separate time and place different each time? But, if were were to average them together, a clearer picture would would begin to emerge! But as you said, its all about comradery and the food!

Reminds me of an F-111 profile, sleek. I am looking to try some newer bullets. After your parallel, how can I resist?

I think you will like the same just like the F-111.

Concerning the 40 cal Pittman Accumax 225g, Richard just about has me convinced to get a sporter version of a 40, about Rem Model 7 size or full size Rem, with a 22-23” barrel for shooting light to moderate loads of the Fury or Pittman at 2600-2800’/sec. I have a Zeiss Duralyt Lighted 2-8 that would be perfect for than. I.😉.
PS Richard has been subtly convincing me to move into the modern world. The choice of gun is mine.
