Been really busy at work and had not taken time to go out and hunt this season until Sunday morning. Got in the stand later than I planned, 7:15. Cold front had moved through and temp had dropped to low 20s. I was stoked bing out my first time this year, and tired toting a gun heavier than I am use to. Look up one of my shooting lanes and see a phantom deer— a bush that I wanted to put horns on. No luck- the Schmidt and Bender would not accommodate my anxiousness to see my first deer. So I decided to begin the task of getting comfortable and emptying my coat pockets. Look up the same shooting lane and a real deer crosses. No chance to see how big but I knew it was a buck. I figure he will cross the next lane shortly so I begin to adjust my searing position when he pos out and heads straight down the power line away from me. Not much time to decide but I finally decide to shoot if presented an opportunity. He stopped and turne a littlento the left, not quite quartering away from me. Not an ideal angle but is now or never. Took the shot—-bang flop. Dead right there. My phone showed it was 7:22. This all transpired in 7 minutes. I decided to sit for a few more hours just to see what was moving. At 10:00 a bobcat stalked my deer, attempted to take a bite out of his hind quarter. I shot at him but forgot to adjust and grazed over the top of him. He jumped straight up and took off like greased lightening. 10:20– two buzzards landed in the tree above my deer. I figured it was time to go home. The temp was around 27 degrees and everything in the woods seemed to be looking for an easy meal. mail.aol.com/webmail/getPart?uid=31350049&partId=2&scope=STANDARD&saveAs=IMG_1628.JPG

That's awesome!! Congrats!! You should try to get that cat, guess a good one goes for over $300. I'd use a smaller gun though, maybe a 17hmr. 😀

Hat’s off to Richard. The gun shoots more accurately than my custom deer rifle. Hope to put it to the test at a longer distance. This shot was only 184 yards.
I dropped my ramrod climbing into the stand. Did not worry about it—one shot-one kill. 😉 Got down after a while and picked up the ramrod. Got to thinking a monster would come by and me sitting there with an empty gun.

All depends where your at and how there belly’s look. Western desert cats bring good money. Also Canadian lynx bring good money by western I mean northern New Mexico , Utah , and Nevada... some of the other high desert cats

Here locally in Nebraska I talked to a fur buyer who said they were bringing around $300 for a good one. Just need to get one you find out. 😀

Thanks guys. I appreciate all of the help from everyone to help me get started in this new addictive pursuit.
Went out again this morning, saw 4 bucks, the largest an 8 point, about three inches wider than this buck but not quite as tall. Looked to be a three year old deer. I let it walk. Dolemite wants something bigger. Boy it is cold down here. Wind chill in the single digits. But, as always, blessed to be able to go out and hunt another day.
