Can a Ruger No. 1 in 45-70 be safely rechambered to a 45-110? Enough breech material left to handle the extra pressure with the longer case?

Keith.. I've been banned from Doug's so I can't see your response over there, and since I don't work on the #1 I would like to know your thoughts on this..

It should be safe, they chamber them in 450NE and .458 Lott but I'm not sure if they use the same contour for .45-70 as they do on the tropical. You just need to check chamber dimensions and make sure you won't put a step in the chamber.

I say that about the step because a set - back and rechamber to prevent a possible step might mean the quarter-rib no longer matches contour but I can't say for certain.
