The lam stock stripped and bleached. Ready to colorize and then finish.
What a good non reflective finish for a lam stock?
I have done oil and high gloss urethane on wood before. 1st go on a lam and it's a hunting rig. What experiences are there. I don't think colorize and oil would go so good on the lam. I know a lot of guys have done stocks and what can you tell me to not do or to do. Thanks, 10

I use a product brownell's sells called custom gunstock finish, it's a oil urethane in a spray can but it works very well, not your typical spray urethane. I use 0000 steel wool between coats and make sure it's clean before recoating, after about 5 coats if you follow directions you have a beautiful finish that will not yellow over time.

Solution was: Lightly sand painted camo and hit with tac cloth and then a quick double coat (as per directions) of Helmsman spar urethane clear satin, wait 72 hours to cure and again light sand - dbl coat spray urethane wait 72 hrs and repeat again. Final very light hit of sanding and really nice and protected and no shine and colors come through real good. In all my wood finishing I have found that a good wipedown with a tac cloth really saves a lot of headaches. Now to put it all back together. 10

The absolute toughest finish made is Fabulon sold by/thru Shermin--Williams paint stores . Canadian company . It was originally developed for bowling alleys and severe commercial use as a floor finish . Theres Nothing tougher !!! As a kid i got strep throat and bronchitis and had been sick for nearly 2 weeks . Kids in my neighborhood were playing hockey in our ice covered streets . I wanted to play but couldnt . I got so frustrated i put on my ice skates and went apeshit skateing all over the house on our hardwood floors until i was exhausted . There was white lines everywhere complete with sideways slideing stops . I was gonna die when my folks got home from work and rightly so !!! I got a brainstorm !!! I would use warm water with a little Murphys oil soap just like mom did . I mopped , let it dry , then took a dust mop and polished it up just like she did . Success !!! It never showed !!! I also never did anything like that again !!!
After 58yrs those floors Still look like they were Just done !!! I give this background to show how tough this stuff is . Its dam near indestructable !!! Still made too . Its all i will Ever use . Comes in several different sheens includeing flat . Boys this one LASTS !!! Youll Never hurt it !!!
The only catch is its fumes are Toxic !!! Theres a particular way it Must be cured . If you can handle that this is THE stuff .
