I came across an unfired 26" MGM 270win barrel for an Encore that my buddy had built 7 yrs ago. He sold it to me for $225 and 250pc once fired brass for $50.
Anybody shoot a 270? Favorite bullet? Experiences? Just curious.

I shot one for many years and it's a great caliber, I shot 130 Sierra Game Kings backed by 4350 and got good accuracy and speed. I don't know what they go for but you didn't go wrong with the caliber for sure.

Also contact MGM and ask for barrel break-in procedure. My friend followed their procedure and I watched his group go from about 1 1/2" down to one ragged hole within about 10 shots. I think you will be pleased with your barrel.

MGM price was $370 for plain blue med contour last time I checked. Your buddy might have gotten ss, fluting, or a brake to add to the cost? Nonetheless, they are top of the line barrels.
I have another, in 358win, for IN public land hunts. It still requires the brass to be trimmed short to be legal, but still works fine. I did follow their break in, and it is a tack driver for sure.
I will put the new barrel on a frame and test it when the heat wave lets up. Kind of excited about something new. I am hoping to just buy one bullet and stick with it. I am over running my space with inventory of every other caliber now. Lol

I shoot a 270 win in a Tikka T3 with a 22.4 inch ss barrel.
One of my favorite bullets is the Honardy ELD- 145 grain bullet that just came out about 6 months ago. It has a high G1 B.C. of .536. It's accurate and tends to make less pressure that you'd expect. I called Honardy to ask their recommended max load of H4831SC and they confirmed that 59.9 grains is their recommended max load. That gives me 2,900 fps out of my rather short barrel. My gun likes a 59.6 grain charge for accuracy.

Finally got the new barrel doing its thing. Had an issue with a short throat, couldnt load a bullet to anywhere near proper oal. Was also having brass sticking bad enough that the extractor bent. So MGM got it back, and said it was out of spec, so they fixed me up. Then still having some brass sticking, even with starting loads. I lowered the charge weight down 3 grains below starting, and finally got it figured out. Starting charge is 56gr H4831 with 130gr bullet. This barrels max load and most accurate is 54gr H4831. Two full grains below the listed starting load. Its timing at 3040fps. MGM says it is not uncommon since they cut to match tolerances. So, it is shooting 3/8" to 1/2" @ 100yd. No complaints, just a little rocky start.

Great caliber for deer I have used Hillbill same load for many years. Hillbill are you sure were not related? I wore two 270 barrels out used them for varmints and anything else I wanted to kill.

+1 on the 270.
I have a safe full of rifles and always gravitate back to the 270 for deer hunting.
Deadly accurate and easy on the shoulder,

Barrel is shooting great now. I will be carrying it on opening day and any others I sit over a field with some range to it.
Got too many deer guns to choose from. I rotate as the season goes and put away any that get a kill on them.

I have two deer rifles. A light weight, short barreled 308 for the woods and a 45 caliber Cyclops SPML for the long range stuff...... If neither one of those will do it,, I'm staying in bed..............,

If neither one of those will do it,, I'm staying in bed.............., I have had only one or two for many years early in my hunting career. Now, I am too afraid of dropping one during the season to only have one dedicated one. Plus, YOU can make one in a moments notice if need be. No, I have never dropped one yet. Lol. But you dont know my luck.

Gotta love the .270! After over 100 years, the 30-06 case is still king for its capabilites & its offspring. Hard to improve on perfection. My brother has a .270 that will shoot well under an inch @ 200 yards. You got a deal, and a shooter. Keep whacking deer... LOL
