My son got a huge gar pike today! State record is 53" 18lb don't think it will make it although it's a contender for sure Attachments:

Those can be hard to land if you don't have steel leader, I have had them cut my line a bunch of times in the river.

Those gar are very good to eat as well! Congrats!! Was running lines one night on the river for flatheads...and I might add we were very successful..as dawn broke we rolled into the landing.There was a older gentleman there and we started talking and he asked us how we did and we told him and I mentioned that we fought the Gars all night stealing bait..he asked what I did with the Gars? I told him I smacked the bait stealers in the noggin and sent them floating...you would of thought I punched him in the gut! lol I got the boy dont you ever do that again talk from him! lol He told me how to clean them and I tried them...I was impressed! |
