Well finally changed some scopes around for this 6.5/284 on the Enfield action. RL16 is proving to be a very good powder for this caliber and case. Really burns clean and the deviation is really small when you get enough powder in the case to generate some pressure.
This gun has a Krieger barrel 1-8 twist which was my take off barrel. The barrel always do shoot well and shortening it and fitting it up to this big Enfield action has not hurt the accuracy one bit.
Today I tested some of the new 140gr Nosler rdf bullets actually tried them twice in this barrel with only average groups at 100 yards same loading with 142 gr SMK shot tiny bug holes if no indication of accuracy lose when I kept upping the power charge of RL 16. Today 50.8grs of RL16 and a 142 SMK gave me 2985fps My winning match loads from this barrel were 50.8grs of RL17 that also went 2980 when the barrel was 29" also RL17 was dirt powder RL16 is really clean and with the copper reducer agent in the powder it could really make the 6.5/284 real winner again at the 1k game

RL16 is an interesting choice for powder in the 65-284, what inspired you to try this powder? My favorite powder is Retumbo, I can easily push 140 grain bullets at 2950-2960 from my 26 inch Hawk Hill barrel. Some of my other powder choices were 150-180 fps slower in this barrel including H1000, H4831sc but all of the powders shot tight groups at 200 M range.

Well Retumbo might give you good velocity and decent accuracy at closer ranges but RL 16 is supposed to be a extremely stable powder for 1K benchrest so they claim I am seeing good results so far. I have not put this to the test at 1K yet when warmer weather and day light saving comes around I might have a chance to give it a try at the loner distances. Retumbo quickly fell out of favor among the 1k shooters at our range it just would not produce consistent accuracy. RL16 should work really well in the 300 WSM which is probably the most popular cartridge used here in heavy gun in light gun the 6MM Dasher is the most popular. I also plan on trying RL16 in the Dasher with 110gr SMK bullets since I got my 7 twist barrel.

By "stable" do you mean consistent velocity and grouping under variable weather and temperature extremes? or just more consistent at 1K?
What powder due you recommend in the Dasher for the 105-107 grain bullets -8 twist?

In my part of the country everyone uses Varget. Out west and down south they seem to do better with RL15 and 450 primers for what ever reason that combo doesn't work at our range.
Retumbo does not produce low enough extreme spreads in most cases. You need to be able to tune vertical groups out of your gun at 600 yards and especially 1,000 yards Big slow powders do not respond to small changes in powder charges. In a Dasher .01 grain increase or decrease will show up vertically on your target at 1,000 yards. You need a powder scale that will weigh out in I/100ths of a grain not 1/10th like most regular electronic scales. They say there accuracy is within .01 grain that can be up or down that much so it is really .02grs and that is not good for long distance shooting.
