Here is a 6.5/284 built on a customized Enfield 1917 new issue bolt and new extractor the bolt is modified to cock on open. It has a Dayton trigger which goes below 1 lb Krieger barrel 1-8 twist 20 MOA base and 24x Weaver strictly for temporary test purposes. This a old Fajen walnut maple laminate for 30 years ago. The big of Enfield had a 30/378 barrel on it for a long time but at $4.00 a case for brass it was not practical to shoot so off came that barrel and bolt and in went the new issue bolt.
If you don't polish the crap off the bolt the bolt will fit the action very good with very little play. The old Enfield has 10 tpi square threads it used a coned breech and a extractor cut in the barrel very similar to a Winchester mod 70 action.
The gun will handle any load you care to throw at it . Accuracy is very good with the new 140gr Nosler RDF bullets. I am still working up a load to see were max is .

I have had a number if big caliber magnums built on these actions over the years if you find one that has been customized they work really well but they take a lot of work when they are in their stock military form. I never chambered a Enfield before and they do require a special threading tool which is avaible from Brownell they also have zero crush when it's tight its tight you can't gain by hanging on the action. Also the bolt have way more cam action on the lugs than a Remington this was a military action designed to force cased into a chamber they maybe dented or what ever. Also I found out the bolt handle must be closed full on the head space gauge and the safety have to be able to be applied because it fits into a hole in the bolt handle so you can't lift the bolt when the safety is on. Well I didn't know that part and chased it around a little.
Anyway it was fun project and now it is a useful gun. Wait till you see the next muzzleloader I am building probably be a month before its done.
