This is a build I have been putting off for awhile.. it's a 6.5-284 built on a Bat 3 lug and a Kreiger barrel.. the stock is the hard part. It's a richard's microfit that I ordered with out any inlet. After a day on the mill I have it I let Ted and ready to start shaping the rest of to to my liking.. hopefully by the end of the week I'll have some clear coat on it.

I think we all know how this is going to turn out and can't wait to see the finished artwork you do.

looks like a lot of work, you have the right tools to get it done though!
look forward to seeing the finished product..
I'm working on one right now myself, just put the base coat on the stock today, cut down a stock from the ole XR-100,inletted it for BDL bottom metal and added a reinforcing pin, was 3.5 lbs when I started, now it's 2.1 lb without the pad, lots of work but kind of fun.

Hank been there and done that. I have built many benchrest stocks from scratch. What kind of chamber reamer are you using for this 6.5/284. I have had good luck with my .297NK and a 188FB that is the correct throat length if your going to shoot 140 or 142 gr bullets. .297 is a no turn neck I have had some down to .292NK and they didn't shoot any better.
John Hoover is a friend of mine and is whole family has shot 6.5/284's at Williamsport and they have all got into the hall of fame. John will be the first to tell you not to run a tight neck. .003 or .004 is were you want to be and just true up your necks on your brass. The 6.5 likes a lot of neck tension and good clearance at the same time. Don't be alarmed if it doesn't shot bug holes at 100yards it is not a 100 yard gun.
I have posted about my tests on RL16 powder that shows real promise, In the 6,5x284 case it seems to be closer to H4831 than H4350 also it seems to build pressure slower than RL17. RL17 is the speed powder for this cartridge but today it got 2988fps and I am not max out.

Elkman. My reamer is a .297 nk with .188 free bore and has the pilot bushing. All of my reamers have pilot bushings and I have the complete set for ever caliber from 22 to 338. I have built a bunch of 6.5-284's and have yet to see one that won't shoot bug holes.... I expect no less from this one. The 6.5 caliber in general is one of my favorite for accuracy shooting, however I have had good luck with 6 mm and 30 calibers as well.
I might try some of that RL16 in this rifle if I can find some in my neck of the woods... I will keep you posted,,,,

Your using the same reamer design I always use a piloted bushing reamer and I have sets. I pains me to no end to see someone run a standard pilot reamer into a new match barrel and think there going to get a great chamber.
Yes RL16 is new my fellow shooter buys a lot of powder and he got a few lbs to try. I keep telling Richard that bug holes a 100 yards don't mean much at 600 or 1,000 yards. You have to tune the load for that range. Since you don't compete in 1,000 yard matches getting it to shoot small at what ever distance is still the name of the game. H4350 seems to be the go to powder but I have never had good luck with it in my 6.5 or 300wsm I just bought a box of the new Nosler RDF bullets in 6.5 140gr and also Nosler 6mm 105 gr RDF and 110gr Sierra SMK I got a new 1-7 twist barrel coming to shoot the 110 gr SMK that bullet 1.340" long so I will be busy building some guns before spring.

Whats that forearm clamp you have there? Looks like something I would like to have. It is a vice I made that is self centering so that you can use it for many different size fore Arms... You must support the far end of the stock when machining the barrel channel or you will get chatter like craze and run the risk of splintering the wood.

I am always concocting some redneck holding system. That one looks sweet. It's a pain in the butt getting everything level the way I do it so that looks like an easy fix. Im not sure I am interested in the work of making one but I may start looking for something similar to modify for my mill. Inlet looks good btw.
