3.5-4" of eye relief is always a plus on these hard kickers, I too got nailed with my ole savage on the largest deer I've ever killed because of a very rushed shot, of course 70 grns of H-4198 and a 300 grn Barnes original had little to do with it..LOL

The scope was not my choice of scopes and brand new build. Im accustomed to my brake gun with4" eye releif. This gun is much lighter abd no break. So my typical light hold with front rest only was a bad ideal. I ckd scope position again last night and its correct. Just another lesson learned at range.

Offhand is where you will get hit often if things aren't set up right. Any position where your upper buddy moves with the recoil has the potential for a hit. Prone is not so bad nor are positions that allow you to take the recoil in line (like a low barricade or a bench with a stool that is too tall) with the gun. In addition to a scope with enough eye-relief you need the lowest rings you can use and/or an adjustable cheek piece. When you do not have a solid cheek weld (most guys don't have nearly the weld they think they do) your head is like a bobble doll and the gun runs a good chance of smacking you. I posted this scenario in a video a while back on a gun I haven't installed and adjustable cheek piece on yet.

Worst part was got tagged at shot#3 and eye brow blowed up about1/2" which reduced releif. So got bumped 7 out of 18 shots. I didn't give up. Finished match . Dedicated or stupid cant really say.

My daughter got smacked by the scope about 4 years ago and she still is gun shy about the same. I would have had a very difficult time concentrating. I had a poor fitting shotgun trap stock that caused the same general problem but to the cheek bone area. My average also took a drastic turn downward. Hope the next shoot goes better.

if one can really think for example a 6ppc/free recoil is no different than a sml dragster-your outta your mind & should seek help
you do have to put a little more shoulder resistance if you will on these dragsters or you will get bit eventually//fwiw after 1k+ downrange just w/ 327's not counting 300's,275 & such//been bit a few times even w/ good form & I'm not sayin I'm perfect kause I knot
bestill- way to hang tuff & fight it out!

I was on a depredation hunt in a county park a few years ago. Sitting in my Summit climber, the deer came up from behind me left to right. I turned as far as possible and was in a real bind. The butt stock did not get a good hold on my coat at that severe angle and the rest is history.4 inches of eye relief made no difference when 68gr of 4198 and a 325FTX turned loose.I killed the deer but did not have the motivation to reload and shoot the others that were waiting on the dead one because I was bleeding like a stuck hog from inside and outside of my nose. Lesson learned...

With offhand shooting it's all about form. When I tried out for the state rifle team they gave us these old canvas shooting jackets to use and once you got into it and had all the straps tight it was like have a body cast on. Supposedly if you made the team they would have one custom tailored for you. To this day when I see some one shooting offhand and I see their elbow against their body tells me they ether shot competition or was taught by someone that did. When I went for the biathlon team the standing stance they wanted to see required a whole new set of back muscles,

Yeah, looks like it's been a while since he was in biathlon shape so they need to stay on the Air Force chick.

Been about 30 years (or about a 100 lbs ago) since I gave up skiing. For a race you wear what they call "skins" which are pretty much lycra/spandex outside and a cotton/polypropylene liner. You want to be aerodynamic on the outside and the poly wicks the sweat from the inside to the outside. Not much insulation, your working your buttocks off skiing, there is usually mesh in the back and armpits. Lot like "Nordic" ski racing suits but with reinforced knees and elbows and sometimes a sling cuff on the weakside bicep sewed in.
