The best held hand range finder for under 1K is the Swarovski 8x30 I have used most of them and it works better than all the others in real world hunting conditions. It works better than the Sig Sauer Kilo 2000. When you get really serious about long ranging then you need to step up to the new G7 range finder or the Terrapin which is know discontinued. we have two of those and they work really well out beyond 2,000 yards on just about any object in most lighted conditions except if you have light snow in the air then none of them work.
I have a Zeiss 11x military range finder made after world war two that reads in meters. It takes practice to use and does require a tripod to mount the range finder on because the tube is over 36" long. but you can also hand hold it with the two fold down handles it has. It has never failed me and it will take readings when a electronic range finder won't. I always take it to Colorado when I go long range hunting. You will run out of gun long before you run out of ranging with this rangefinder.

Leica or the Sig will range a deer every time at 400 and way rather than that every time.In low might or bright sun light. In a heavy snow storm you may have a hard time with any of them. The terrapin elk talked about is the best there is but there discontinued and go from $1900 to $2300 on long range hunting forum from time to time used.

I like my Bushnell Fusion, it will do past 1760yds. Plus it is 12X binos. Mark, I am looking at the fusion how long have you had them ? The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger is the warranty is only 1 year buddy of mine has the Leica geovid but that's a little out of my budget!! The reviews on the fusion I have read are all good I am just scared of the warranty!! Thanks

I don't think you want to shoot 400 yards in a snow storm or in very low light. I have done the low light bit but that gets questionable real fast unless you have a spotter. We had snowy conditions here in Pa. this year that none of are range finder would work. Since we know all the ranges pretty well by heart it is no big deal but if you go to a new area you need a good rangefinder.
I looked at the new G7 rangefinder and we tested it side by side with the Terrapin and it ranged everything the Terrapin did. Also the G7 has a built in ballistic app out to 1400 yards I wish they would run it out to 2,000 yards they probably update it at some point. Price on the G7 is around $1,699.00 that's not cheap and it's not needed by most shooters but it is the best there is for right now.

The reviews on the fusion I have read are all good I am just scared of the warranty!! Thanks My Bushnell Elite 1500 had problems ranging even highly reflective targets beyond 400 yards from Day 1. It got worse and worse, and finally wouldn't range beyond 100 yards. By then, the measly 1 year warranty was out and Bushnell wouldn't do a thing about it, other than to offer me a newer model at a cost higher than I could buy it myself elsewhere. Lol! My advice is to only buy a rangefinder if it has a LIFETIME warranty. Otherwise, run, don't walk away. My replacement was a Vortex 1000. It may not compete with the expensive models, but I've tested it close to its rated range, and Vortex will replace it no matter what happens to it. They hold their value, as the warranty covers not only the original purchaser, but all subsequent owners as well.

I have had a leica for 5 years its a great rangefinder Same here. The only laser I could find at the time that would read on snow. It has never failed me yet.

I used my Zeiss 8x26 prf rangefinder this past season and it performed perfectly. The 8x is really nice and it has very good glass. I ranged a doe at 611 yards the other day with ease. I also ranged a buck right before dark at 501 yards that I could not see with the naked eye. I have ranged out to 1389 yards with it. Got it on sale for $499.

I just got the Leica 1600b. So far, compared to everything else I have tried, it is shocking to say the least, except for a Swarovski 8x. Time will tell, but I have never seen a negative review yet.

I wouldn't buy another Nikon after the last one I had wouldn't work during my September antelope hunt in 2014. I'm not sure my current Leupold will work either but I do feel it's better than the Nikon I had.
After reading this post and researching range finders I think I would have bought a SIG or Lieca.
