As everyone makes final preparations for coming to the shoot, keep safety in mind. Drive carefully men.

And keep this in mind at the range! Bolts should be open when not on the firing line. Will there be a RSO on the scene? or at least a designated person?

In the past we all looked after each other but as things grow and we get more shooters we will need to be a little more organized and have some one watching out and keeping order.. We do have much more room behind the benches now and that will make it easier to move around... Weather is going to be nice and we shouldn't be falling down in the mud,, lol..

Typically, Kyle, the Range Safety Officer should be non-shooter who can be involved with just safety. And yes, I know this is not a formal shoot or registered match, but everyone more or less wants to BS and mingle. This is hard when you want to shoot and BS. At our registered 600 yard matches there is the Range Officer (who calls the match and he is assisted by two RSO's on either end of the range (16 benches). None of these people are match participants. They are just there to watch for any infractions and keep the line safe. 27 shooters with only 6 or 7 benches means a lot of guns will be moving around to and from trucks and tents. If we could just make it a rule (and policed by all participants ) that bolts must be open except when the shooter is on the bench and the range is hot, we will all be a lot safer.

Richard..
We will have a Pow Wow before any shooting begins and discuss range rules and range safety.. I volunteer myself, Kyle Bill and you if you want too,, to inspect each gun before it is loaded to make sure it's not loaded and to just give a quick visual inspection before any shooting is done..
I've had two rifles this month sent to me that were loaded,, neither of which did I know of until I started working on them...
SAFETY IS OUR UPMOST CONCERN.
Jeff.

agree on open bolts when not on the bench-only way to be safer.don't recall any closed bolts the last 2 shoots though, this bunch is a safety conscious group ime's
at last shoot there was ribbon stranded to keep people routed out of danger.

Safety is always and has been the #1 priority at all the shoots.. Although it is sometimes the last thing we talk about in these message boards... Safety is a serious thing but it is also sometimes boring and not the main thing people remember once they have left the range and went home,, but while at the range I do think everyone keeps it stuck in the back of their head...
