Our Long range season started off to a slow start no snow and warm temps with rain really adds up to a waste of time trying to long range hunt in the mountains of Pa. Here or a few pictures of guns and glasses in next post. The tiger maple stocked heavy gun is mine it is chambered for a 7mmSTW it has a 36" Krieger 1.350 barrel in a barrel block topped off with a 15x Unertl target scope. I have been testing the new 195gr Berger EOL bullet. I am pushing these at 3280fps. with a full case of WC 872 powder and a fed 215 primer. The other gun is built on a all aluminum stock it is chambered in 338/408 Chey-Tac topped off with a NF scope this gun send 300gr SMK out the barrel at 3,300 fps this truly a 2,500 yard gun.
I made a drop chart for the 7mm STW using .754 BC for the Berger bullet. Berger said this bullet should have a BC of .814 above 3,000 fps I thought .814 was wishful thinking on their part till I tested some today at 1,350 yards. my drop chart was off by 4 MOA. I was able to get on today with 26.5 MOA which works out exactly to a high BC of .814 which is really amazing. This bullet has truly changed the game of long range shooting.
My next post will show some pictures of our optics we use.

Those are some pretty fine heavy guns.Since berger came out with the 195 I've been wanting to build me another 7 are real bad.But I'm going with a more tactical style build though.I'm shooting a 338 edge now with 300 gr OTMs.Hopefully if the wind isn't too bad tomorrow I can get my over 1000 yard deer in the morning.

very interesting rigs, I bet finding and retrieving an animal after a kill is a chore!

I am sure they use radio's or phones with a spotter directing the retrievers. Hopefully Carl will shot a set of "Big Eyes" which are used for long range spotting. They are comprised of two high quality spotting scopes siamesed together with an adjustable bracket that allows each scope to move laterally for proper eye width. It is the most relaxed way to look at far distances for long periods of time.
