first off I don't care if I win the wood but as always -"I like to do well" aka my "trophy room not runneth over yet"
if I had it my way- all would shoot absolute 1 holers in preliminary's & let the "shoot-off's begin. pressure/pressure/ha ha!
been competing off & on for years now from distance's from 1,000yds & in with many calibers... yep-so what.
so I have been a witness to many happening's at least in my life/shoots competitions etc.
so I run to the kitchen when shooting is not going my way! now we cookin!
competitions for me are a great way for new people to greet & meet & not go away hungry/true!//priceless....making new friends across the regions so the speak-where are you at "bakaboy"??/I understand.
there have been times my game going in in prior days was so tight only to find a "splat" on the target///& then again there have been times I was totally lost going in to bring the wood home-wut da hell iz going on out there//vince lombardi?!/lol
this year ole "xring" has been tough on me,down,up,down,up & maybe 2nd,2nd,2nd & miss a few shoots to busy schedule-unknown it was coming.
entered this year in vha Midwest regional with the big boys coming from 4 states/fig'd if I placed midway I was doing good but I shot wrong target after finding the "10 ring @ 300yds & forgot to cross over to other target costing me approx. 23rd place out of 46& finshed iirc 38th/// vha one the most contested/toughest comp's I have shot/fwiw- here is a pic of targets.
winning scores were 196 out of possible 200 with a 2 min sighter period followed by 5 min record score-imagine that with the wind! hard to believe!
format-5@ 100yds//10@300yds//5@400yds on this day.... 100yd - 10 ring width=.200 outside to outside lines////10 score height .200 300yd-10 ring width =.650 """""""""""""""""""""""" ///10 score height 2.1" height 400yd-10 ring width=.800 """"""""""""""""""""""""" ///10score ring height 2.6"
100yd-
300yd- with 0's//wrong target shot per deadeye-oops
like my saying"you are what you shoot! lol
well-wife's calling/lata

having never competed in formal benchrest of any kind I find this informal shoot very fun and challenging, there will be several guns there, any of which are capable of winning the shoot, who will have their game face on?? Im just there to have fun and burn powder, O and make Bob Parker a little better off.
That's some good shooting Jeff, think we can hang some eggs @ 375 and scramble them??

last shoot you fellas were a hoot & enjoyed watching some fine offhand long range action. very impressive, never know what twist/turn is right around the corner with this bunch.
with this bunch 375 is just plain ethical.
bob p is a middleman so to speak but could not imagine what /where I would be w/ sml without his bullets//yes I finally got my 327's

continuing where I left off I get to mix with a bunch of fellas in which we shoot together sometimes & at other times go to shoots solo depending on busy schedules etc.//always interesting in tech talk & especially chatting about conditions & other humorous things that are tied to these shoots.
a well respected benchrest bud of mine that usually places very high in the above vha regionals finally placed last in a shoot, dead last-so it happens........in 1k 50bmg we called this the "black feather" award note-vha just recently disbanded-how unfortuneate
piedmont,nc-what is the year ending "suspenders" all about?
recently another bud of mine always hot & bothered to finish 1st got all the to a shoot,set-up & commence fire was instructed only to find he forgot to put primers in all his cases///big laugh about that one & can only imagine how hot he was under the collar at the line//I was not there but wish I was for that moment.
all kidding aside it is always great to be in a bunch of fellas that shoot & I have been to shoots where I know no one but always outstanding times/experience's
have a great week & will see ya on friday

Interesting read. I can only imagine the amount of dedication time money etc. that it takes to even be in a shoot such as your talking about. Let alone be a contender for some of the top places. Thank you for posting.

My first and only competition was in Basic Training. Came in first place in the Company, 2d in the Battalion. Have always figured why break that record? Since then, have only competed against myself. Even at that, the second shot sometimes ruins a perfect one-hole group.

Very nice write up with interesting stories. Being at a competition shoot is like sitting at a boat ramp. You will get plenty of laughs. I have not at all been rough on you this year as my schedule like yours has been way to busy. I really wanted to be in the mix at the Kentucky Challenge this fall but my work will not allow that to happen or at least if I want a job to come back to. Deadeye you need to eat plenty of beans cause you will need the gas to get back on. I know Jeff will have plenty of grub and like always it will be some good eating. As seen in pictures there has been alot of work done to the range from several good people. I hope that everyone attending will have lots of fun and fellowship. I am sure there will be alot of very nice ML's as well as very good trigger pullers. The results will be interesting. Be safe and shoot straight y'all

I once got to a match only to realize I left my ammo at home. Luckily my partner shot the same chambering and brought double what he needed for ammo. I shot the first stage with his ammo; started with the long target to get my zero offset since he shot SMK and I shot Hornady OTM then worked over the other targets. Meanwhile my wife did a 2.5 hour turn and burn to the house to get my ammo and save the day. Y'all have fun at the Challenge. Matches are more fun when there is nothing at stake. When guys begin to shoot for registered points and sponsor prizes drama will ensue and then the MD has to arbitrate.

doggonnit-hate it you guys can't make it this time. was looking forward to shaking hands keith.
yea there are sometimes/situations at shoots when the whining gets to me like at the regional Wabash. I just sit & listened for at least 20 min as 3 guy;s just kept complaining about one individual that had a legal gun with a brake something like a 30br . I thought to my self I would just love to shove my braked mz up on a rest next to those 3 & let off a 327mh @ 2840fps .
some other thing's that happened at the last ky shoot:
#1-"sorry Charlie"- a gent was setting up on the next bench to me as I was preparing to fire with my "offensive" muzzle blast that to many was complimenting the job the brake was doing. I did not notice Charlie did not have his headgear hearing protection on,i damn near blew him off the next bench,we later laughed about that. had I known I would not have fired but was in my bubble.
#2-"slip & slide"- it was very wet & with the small approx. 2ft banks surrounding the range it was getting very slick especially in my flip flops. heard a couple of gents notice prior slide marks & make comment, yours truly later bit the dust? dust? mud all the way to my waist.. so I just waded out into "licking creek" & took a small bath looking out for snakes in 12ptdrop's honor.
#3-with limited shelter for guns & wind blowing rain everywhere I was constantly moving my gear hoping to keep dry- when I opened my primer's with modules some were wet some appeared not. just punched in some new ones, dried my bullets off & away we go.
#4- will let hillbill tell it but iirc he needs a floatable waterproof guncase.
anyone else that has anything to add feel free to do so!

I may make it next spring also if nothing unforeseen comes up. Excellent camping weather and shooting conditions..if it doesn't rain too much.
