Looking at going smokeless I have a encore. Going to need a new barrel soon so thinking about going smokeless just wondering what options I have. Will be using for hunting. Have a farm to hunt where shots are possible out to 500 yards. Thanks for the info.

I don't know much about smokeless muzzleloaders but Jeff Hankins can get you started in the right direction give him a call. I do believe he has pictures of some encores on his website that he has converted. Hankins Custom Rifles

Nothing wrong with the Encore but...............If your looking for 500 yards, you might want to consider a bolt gun with more barrel and more stock. 500 yard shots have to be done from a almost bench rest type set up or sturdy stand. My opinion is that the Encore does not have enough stock for a good long range platform. I kind of think of most break action rifles as being more suited to "woods" type hunting vs. a platform on the edge of a big field.........type hunting? And welcome to the board!

Where I'm hunting is woods and field edges. 300 yards would probably be enough would that be possible with the encore platform?

Richard is right I have both Encore and Rem/Brux In the right hands the Encore may do the trick but you would be limited too 60 grains of 4198 Which I consider max in mine In my Rem/Brux I can shoot 70 grains of 4198 and if you build on a center fire action you can shoot 78 grains Go to u-tube and type Hankins Rifles and the video's will answer a lot of your questions Welcome and good luck

I agree with Richard as that the encore is a great 300 yard gun, we had groups at the last Kentucky Challenge that were 2.1 inch at 300 yards, at 400 the group went to 7 inches.. still each shot was in the kill zone of a white tail, but the wind was taking over and by the time those bullets got to 500 who knows where they would be.. Now under perfect conditions you might be able to make a 500 shot but I would try to limit my shots to 300 using an Encore set up. If 500 yard shots are common where you hunt you should consider a bolt gun build.
Welcome to the board..

to go a little deeper on what Jeff and the others are saying
the Encore is a fairly light gun with a light contour barrel, for consistent long shots one needs one of two things, preferably both, bullet speed and bullet weight. the light guns (not just the Encore) are generally shot with lighter bullets at slower speeds, just simple physics, weight + speed generally makes for a longer range gun in .45 cal but also turns a light user friendly gun into a monster that bites back hard. less bullet weight and less speed are not a long range shooters friend.
let's say a 275 grn bullet @ 2500 fps? recoil is getting pretty brutal without a brake, it will take about 63 grns of IMR 4198 to get you there, again getting on the threshold of a max load for the Encore.
what does it take to get to 500 fairly consistently? IMO at least a higher BC 300 grn bullet at 2700 fps or so, some might disagree? I say fairly consistently because even with this load conditions have to be favorable with a rock solid rest.
even better is a 325 @ those same speeds or higher, just not doable with a Encore, more like a bolt gun with 1.200 shank or larger that is significantly heavier to tote around.
Is there a light handy gun that is capable of long range in .45? Yes but they don't come cheap as it has to be purpose built to be a capable do all rig with lightweight parts and barrel, that is a discussion that would take a thread of it's own. again these ideas are JMO.
