Been kicking it around for sometime about getting a 6.5 creedmoor. Found out last night that county I've been hunting for coyotes in did away with the rim fire only restriction and opened it to 22 caliber during deer gun season and anything you want the rest of the year. Been looking at the Ruger American Predator and the Savage model 16 lightweight Hunter. I want something lightweight to put IR scope on and if it gets knocked around alittle bit I won't cry. Has anybody had any luck with either one of those 2 guns ? Or is there something else out there that I should be looking at? Thanks Mark

My first question would be: How far are you planning to shoot these yotes? If you are going beyond 5 or 600 yards I could see a 6.5 but if not, I would think something in 6mm (.243") would be a better choice. A 6mmBR would be an ideal cartridge. More than BR accurate to 600 and somewhat beyond and less recoil to deal with. Plenty of great bullets also. Just my thoughts?

My buddy has the Ruger American Predator in 6.5 and it shoots good with factory loads and outstanding with hand loads.

Richard it going be used mainly for night hunting on yotes so 300 Or less yards. But I was also thinking about using it to deer hunt with. I've already got a 22-250 setup for night hunting along with a 22 mag. So I wanted something to be a sizable step up that plant them in there tracks. A 243 is a good gun I just looking for something a little bigger and my hunting buddy just finished up his 6x47 he put together so I'm trying to keep up with him. That I don't want to spend a whole lot of cash on it and ammo . Thanks Mark

I caught the 6.5 bug a couple years back I had a 6.5x47 built then I built a 6.5 Grendel on an AR15 platform. Then I built a 6.5 creedmoor bolt gun on a JP chassis all have been shooters. Now I just finished a 6.5 creedmoor on a AR10 Mega Arms Megalithic upper and lower have not shot it yet be am pretty sure it will drive nails. But with that said there is no real recoil with these calibers also if your only shooting 300yds you may want to look at the 6.5 Grendel

Being a long time fur hunter I know what works for me. Of course I can't use CF for deer here but predator hunting is an addiction. 3C and night hunting I use my 17 Remington or 17 fireball. The rem is a CZ and the fireball is a Savage 340 that I rebarreled. With those rifles nothing walks away. I shoot 30 gr bullets in the rem and 25 gr in the Fireball. I have IR scope on each. Also use a 17HMR and 22mag depending on proximity to towns, homes, livestock etc... AND I have to say I also use my beloved #10 automatic or an 870. Most of my predator/fur hunting is night hunting but pretty much use same thing for daytime. My buddy has a 700 in that .204 ruger and it doesn't take a back seat to anybody out to 300. Just my results. Your results and desires may be different. 10

Between me and my hunting buddy we've got a 17 hmr ,17 rem, 3 22 mags, 204, 22-250, 243,308 & my buddy just finshed up his 6x47 he put together. And I tote my 12ga 870 super mag with me all the time. The 6.5 is just one those calibers that I've always wanted to try . Or hunt club is in Essex and King and queen but we also hunt King William , Hanover,Caroline Goochland Powatan Amelia and Dinwidde for yotes. Thanks Mark
