Well my good friend Kyle Pittman cam up this weekend to help work on thee range. We mowed the grass, weed eated, and sprayed for weed control. We also did some more construction that I think everyone will like....... At around 1:00 Saturday after noon a big truck and drag pulled into the range loaded with a D5 Caterpillar Dozer... The owner of the dozer (Abner) who is a Mennonite, unloaded the machine and ran it for a few hours. At quitting time, I asked him if he was working tomorrow, He said "No work on Sunday", but I'll leave the key in the dozer if you want to use it tomorrow... So I was excited to get to play with this big machine. Kyle and I cut some big Walnut trees down and drug them out.... These trees were at the 450 yard mark and I wanted to get them before they were filled with lead... I will be taking them to the saw mill where I will have them cut into gun stock blanks. I might be able to use them in about five years..... Anyway Kyle and I got a lot done and I pushed out some big hackberry trees with the dozer like they were little twigs. I am use to running my 60 horse power John Deere tractor with a loader and there would be no way I could ever get these trees out of the ground... This D5 dozer didn't even know they were there. Just ease the blade up to them and give it a little throttle...... Down went the tree and into a big pile at the 450 yard line...Needless to say I want a dozer now....LOL....... Abner is going to come back on Thursday to do the heavy pushing and finish everything off, He is good at this stuff and I was just playing with the machine. It was nice of him to just hand over the key....... Yea... It was fun....... Here is a short video of the dozer pulling out the smallest of the five trees.

Very nice ! Let me know if your gonna do more work at the range Scott and I will make the trip to help . We need to do an organized work party at the range after the bulldozer man is done. 450 yards is going to be nice at the Kentucky Challenge this fall guys!! If 5 or 6 people could put in a weekend it would go a long way. The hours that Jeff has put in at the range to allow us to have a place to gather is unbelievable to say the least. I'm in.

Geez, I can't even see a deer at 450 w/o binos. However with my new "Hank" barrel I will certainly give it a try. Even have a 6-18 X 50 to help these old eyes. Building anticipation for the August shoot. 10

Man, I always wanted to play with a dozer or back hoe. The only thing I got to use a little was an articulated front end loader with a set of forks for moving abandoned cars around in my police impound lot. I love anything that has to do with hydraulic power. From port-a-powers in the autobody industry to building a couple of log splitters. I would be like a "kid in a candy shop" with that dozer!

Day two of bulldozing and we can see the 450 yard mark..... While pushing some stumps that were in the low spots, we found a soft spot... We had a lot of rain last night and we found where it all went... The bulldozer sank almost up to the top of the tracks... I tried to pull it out with my 60 horse power 4 wheel drive John Deere and I almost got it, but the ground was just to wet and I couldn't get enough traction....... So we called in the big tractor... A 130 horse power Kubota... It pulled the dozer out and didn't even know it was there.... So we are on our way to the 450 yard mark.........

Awesome to see y'all expanding the range but 500m isn't that far. Already put that on video with a shot, reload, and a second shot on a steel coyote. I'll take that shot for money all day, every day.

450 is a long shot for a muzzleloader, not at all impossible, not close range either. Let us remember that not everyone is shooting the same setup, whether it be at the Kentucky Challenge or their back yard or a farmers field. Everyone is welcome at the Kentucky Challenge to shoot whatever muzzleloader they bring. It's all for fun guys!! Plain and simple!!

Speaking only for myself, but I'm just a deer hunter not a competition shooter and only get a shot out to 250 yards where I hunt here in Tennessee so getting to stretch it out to 450 at the Kentucky Challenge will be an experience for me. I shot the 300 and 350 in the spring so we will see what the extra 100 yards is like. Thanks Jeff for having a place for all of us to meet up a couple times a year and share some good times and Great food.
