Ok went to the range after church and it was pretty warm, in the low 90s with light winds. range was 113 yds shot from the ole sled. the scope seems to work well and from what viewing I've done so far it looks good, even at dusk, very bright and clear all the way to the edges. tracking seems to be dead on..
powders today were H-4198 and IMR 4198, I have been shooting 73 grns of H and the 300 be and a .060 wad with decent results at the last shoot so that was my starting point today except I used .030s instead. one sighter and then an adjustment. shots 2-6 are shown in pic. 2-5 were not bad and then I got a phone call while loading, I lost my place and checked after the call was over with the rod and could see I didn't have a bullet in but I was sure I poured powder in but was unsure about a wad..(rookie mistake) (distractions =flubs) anyway I decided to prime and blow whatever out as best I could. I inverted and banged on the stock but as you can see by the speed I didn't get all the powder out and thus shot 6. was high.
all but the last group were fired with the magnetospeed on the barrel 1.2794 2.2793 3.2805 4.2794 5.2788 6.2844
next group was with 73 grns of IMR 4198 and the same components
1.2910 2.2903 3.2890 4.2905
I then shot 70 grns of IMR and it was the low bullet in the group
1.2837

I then shot 3 shots of the same load without a wad as fast as I could load without the magnetospeed on a very warm barrel

as you can see today the H averaged about 38.28 fps per grain IMR averaged 39.75 fps per grn
In my gun I have the suspicion that it likes the H better accuracy wise with this particular bullet but nothing is conclusive with this few shots fired..

Now you will never know if you would have shot better before church? Cell phones and muzzle loading don't mix!

ANY distraction and muzzleloading are voodoo. another reminder for me to get my head out of my butt..
I think I will like the scope, time will tell. I know the gun can shoot it will just take a little tweaking and a steady hand..

hillbill thx for the report- I was thinking/contemplating the same between H4198 & I4198 & a certain bullet, usually h4198 is known just a tad bit more quicker burning rate than I4198.....but what was your barrel length??
might just be a small harmonic's difference between the 2/just guessing?
I am slightly surprised with the fps readings between the I & H4198's with that bullet in those temp's...
as always nice shooting! nicely done!

I have seen many times with the same gun/loads in much different fps sometimes lower/sometimes higher poi/fwiw-but I definitely can't explain why one time it goes one way then another the other with the same rest/bench etc.

Nice to see a group posted and good shooting! Today was 112° with heat index so I tried to stay inside. Hope to see more groups posted and range reports!

Very nice report Bill and thanks for sharing your moment of distraction. Glad it turned out well!
How do you rate the VX 6 compared to your Conquest?

So far I would say the vx-6 is optically on par or slightly better, hopefully mechanically it will be far superior
Mike No mirage but I was only shooting 113 yds
