Waiting on my build from Jeff,I know that he likes IMR 4198. My question is,I have 2 lbs. of Hodgdon H4198 that I have been using in my RemPac and would like to know if this would be the same as IMR 4198 grain for grain or should I get some IMR 4198 for the new build?

I "think" it would fairly much the same but I'd ask Jeff to be sure.

It's pretty much the same.. Just a different color..
Check of for velocity and start with 75 grains and work up...
Jeff.

I will do a post shortly but I did some shooting today with both powders behind a 300 BE 73 grns H-4198 avg 2792 73 grns IMR- 4198 avg 2900 70 grns IMR = 2837
IMR is slightly bulkier and larger grains, however H seems to be a little more accurate in my gun, not a definitive test mind you but I have the feeling it will be. keep in mind testing has just started and I will show more in a thread tonight...

I don't shoot H4198 however it does seem to be more accurate from what I've seen. Also heard H4198 burns cleaner. I still like shooting IMR because it's cheaper.

I shoot the IMR all the time. Seems clean to me and always goes bang. But not in the current weather conditions .

I tried testing both with one of my duplex loads and found they both shot to the same approximate velocity. Like Bill mentioned, the IMR is longer grained. For me, I use the Hodgedon version as it meters better thru my Harrell's powder measure. So Rambler...........IMR will not ignite where you live in hot humid weather? Hmmmmmmm? Time to change to Hodgedon as it goes bang here in NC Riverrat.......How much cheaper?

OMG here we go again... lol
I meant that I haven't been shooting in this unbearable heat.
Seriously i've never had a mis-fire in this gun. But then i no longer live in the tundra and our lows in the winter might get to the teens and that's it. I have shot single loads here in the cold and no problems.
In all probability I'll be shooting strictly duplexs going foward
