I built 2 guns to compete with at The Williamsport 1,000 yard club. Both these guns are built around our light gun 17lb rules. I chambered up two new X-Caliber blanks one in 6mm 1-8 twist and one in 308 1-10 twist The 6mm is a Dasher with a .266 nk and .155 free bore. And the 300WSM has a .336 nk . In the first three matches of the year I f have won my relay twice. Which is no easy task we have the best long range shooters coming to our matches.
First relay I won for smallest group group of 6.6" and a score 97 out of 100. That's (10) shots. Today I shot a 99 out of 100. It is very hard to shoot a perfect 100. WE always manage to have several 100's shot on our range over the course of there year. These X=caliber barrel started off as a blanks and then I turn it to what ever diameter I need to make weight with a 12x42 NightForce scope. The 6mm Dasher shot really small right away no fooling around with this one!
The 300WSM did not shoot the 210 Berger VLD bullet which my reamer is setup for. Like I told Richard it would shoot tiny bug holes at 100 yards but would not group well at 1,000 yrd. It tried all the proven loads and it just didn't shoot good enough to win a relay. So you try something different. Since the Berger 210VLD was 308.65 in diameter I new I needed a smaller diameter bullet. I had a lot of old 200gr Sierra MK so I tried those and it instantly shot small at 1,000 yards.
I built one 45 Cal muzzleloader with a X-Caliber barrel and it also shot very well right off the bat. So the bottom line is X-Caliber is making a very good barrel. If you would order a .458 1-18 barrel the Sendro taper doe not have a long enough shank for a Rem 700 M/L action it will work on a Savage M/L or a any other CF action. They seem to be good people to work with so I am just passing the info along as another Barrel option.

They say 6-8 weeks on their website it all depends on what caliber you want. The 6mm and 6.5 and 30 are probably the quickest to get.

One of my smiths has been using X-Caliber barrels for awhile. He has built some very good shooting gun using them. He has a 6mm barrel from them ordered for me to be put on my backup/practice gun chambered in 6XC.

Hey I have been very happy with the X-Caliber barrels. I just order two more another 6mm 1-8 and a 7mm 1-8. What twist are you using in the 6xc? 1-7

Bob Sutton called me today and we talked about the 6mm barrels. He did mention that he was really excited about the 3 groove barrel. Lija also makes a 3 groove. 3 groove barrels are not a new idea but when done right should work really well. Putting less stress on the jacket of the bullet. Are you competing with this gun at 1K? Bob mention someone was testing one at the Montana 1,000 club.
My Dasher is doing really well. It will shoot smaller groups than I am letting it. I came in third place in my relay for our four match. My relay had two of our very best shooters that come to our range. I simply tried to rapid fire 10 down range because of the crazy wind. I didn't take enough time to get really centered up on each shot and I last by about .300 they were all in the blue which is nice but it wasn't good enough to win the relay. I can't fault the barrel simply shooter error. You can get beat at the reloading bench and then you can beat yourself at the shooting bench with bad technique.
